'59 6spd automatic
Anyone know anything about a 6spd auto from '59? I know someone with a 292 mated to it, supposedly all stock from a '59 runway sweeper truck. The whole setup is prolly getting scrapped. I got the air compressor/alternator brackets and triple belt pulleys.
I would probably never use it but it would be kinda cool to have, I didn't even know there was such a thing back then, especially setup on a yblock. Just one of those things I'll probably never find again, ever.

Ah yes, the Transmatic Drive. One of the engines it was mated to was the 292HD - the one with a 4 barrel carb and a governor. It was also used with the 302HD and 332HD.
The shifter was mounted on the dash and had several positions - R, N, 1-2, 3-4, 3-6, and such. Too bad you are so far from me, as I have been keeping my eye out for that setup in my area.

is this something that's worth snatching up? Seems like it might be cool to put in my '59 f250 someday although it most likely would just sit it my garage.
Any idea on the value of it? I'm not trying to resell just wondering if it's actually as cool and unusual as it seems. He has all the cables/throttle brackets and shifter.

If, as I suspect...it's a Trans-Matic, it will make a terrific boat anchor! And since you live on Vashon Island, there's water water everywhere.
When my dad was de-commissioning ships after WWII ended, housing was in short supply in the Bremerton area. All he could find was a goat farm on Vashon Island...we lived there two years until he was mustered out.
A gal friend of my sister lives on Vashon Island, her first name is Cathy....she's single, but is approaching 60.

It is worth snapping up if you are going to use it, and a light truck with a Transmatic would be out of the ordinary. The cool factor would be up there. As to value, whatever buyer and seller agree on would be the value. On the open market I would put value at scrap value (and it is heavy). There is about zero demand for these, since if it needs work parts are hard to get, and the guys familiar with working on these are getting up in years.
It will give you no performance advantage except if you are pulling stumps, as it has a low first gear. And do not forget that it has a hydraulic retarder, so you will still have three pedals.
