Door Ajar Sensors!

A friend of mine has a 2002 F-250, 7.3L, 2WD, crew cab. His truck is show the doors are ajar when closed and showing closed when the doors are ajar. He pulled the sensors from the doors and and manually checked them. Pushing down on the the sensor they work correctly and all, but when put back into place the don't work properly again. What could be the problem, any ideas?

James

My Expedition did that on the one door. I WD40'd it and that took care of it.

Liberally (but not too liberally) spray the latch and assembly with WD-40. Wipe up the excess, open and close the door a few times, should take car of the issue. It's worked on my F150 and my Mustang.

We tried that throughout the course of a week, no joy! That's when he decided to take them out and look at them. Problem still exists!

Just realized you wrote 'doors'... plural... odd that numerous sensors would go at the same time. Possible grounding issue is my guess, especially if they are reading backwards.

We took that into account as well, but when the are out of the door latch mechanism, they work perfectly.

Definite grounding issue, then.

I just picked up an '02 F250 Crew cab yesterday and my door ajar light stays on as well! Where are these sensors located?

The sensors are part of the door latch assembly. Spray the latches with WD 40 or Silicone lubricant. If you have the extended cab, remember there is a latch on top and bottom of the extended cab doors.

Silcone spray fixed the issue on my 03 F250

Hi, I know it's been a while but did you ever find a solution to your backward reading sensor problem, I'm having the same issue in my 02 7.3l f350?

WD40 did the trick! Spray a liberal amount then open and close the door repeatedly. You might have to do this sequence more than once. But that foxed mine.
