More fan blades?

My '66 with a/c currently has a 5 blade fan and shroud. Is there a fan available that would bolt on to my 352 that has more blades? I'm in AZ and the stop and go traffic can be bad here.

Look for a 7-blade fan from a late '60s to '70s Lincoln. Most of them fit FE, 335 and 385 water pumps. Be sure to measure it, though. Incredible flow, too.

Another route is to put an electric fan on the front of the radiator, you can get them with an adjustable thermostat switch, so the fan will come on at a preset temp. I did that and I never get over 185, it usually runs at about 160-165, and it will go up to 185 in heavy So. Cal. Traffic. You can get the fan and switch at most auto parts for around $100 or you can go for a bigger fan set up ( 2800 CFM) for about $150-185 and remove your current fan completely. It is up to you! That is just another option. I put a remote switch in the cab so I can turn it on manually if I choose such as when I hit a big grade towing the trailer. Some people don't like the electric fans, but all of your new cars use only the electric fans, as they free up horsepower!

All of these will have a 2 3/8" center hole, used for a viscous drive fan clutch. Similar 7 bladed fans will be found in 1965/78: Galaxie/LTD, full sized Mercs / 1964/79 Thunderbirds / 1969/79 Continental Mark III, IV & V's.

Depending on the applications, these fans used w/fan clutches will be: 18 1/2" or 19" or 19 1/2" diameter. Some are flex-fans, some of which have massive blades that are very noisy when the fan isn't free wheeling.

1965/67 F100/250 352: The original 4, 5 and 6 (6 = used w/dealer installed A/C) bladed fans were 18 1/2" diameter, none used a fan clutch.

1975/80 Granada 200/250 I-6 6 & 7 bladed fans used wth A/C are the correct diameter, do not use a fan clutch.

There are other similar 6 & 7 bladed fans used in mid-sized 1965/79 I-6 & V8 Passenger Cars that will also work that did not use a fan clutch.

In 1982 when I did a "frame-off" resto on my (now former) 1965 F100 352, I installed a 4 row radiator, fan shroud from a 1968/76 F100/350 360/390 w/o Super Cooling radiator (it bolted right on w/o mods), and then...

Took the original 4 bladed fan, went thru boxes of new fans to match up the diameter and to add blades. That's why I know the 7 blade Granada fan will work, cuz that's what I used.

I wouldn't recommend getting rid of the mechanic fan even if you added the electric also due to where you live. It won't flow enough.

Thanks for the reply. I went the electric fan route and it drew too many amps. I really am not fond of straying away from the originality of my truck and it bothered me. The alternator was being over worked as well. Too fit a larger alternator in; I'd have to relocate it down low where it won't interfere with the head. Bigger alternators are deeper. I then read on another forum how many of the old timers swear by the simplicity and reliability of the steel fans. They pull more cfm than many electric and clutch fans, especially at idle. Also; going back to a steel fan gets rid of relays, temperature switch and excess wiring. It's a win/win situation that follows the K.I.S.S. principle.

As always; thank you for all your help Bill. I'm currently on the search for the Granada fan.
