e4od problems on 7.3 f250 1990
Hi i am having some issues with my truck, my e4od trans is takeing off in 3rd gear it wont shift down but jumps into neutral if you mat it and you can put it in 2nd and but not 1st. Also the overdrive button is flashing. I read that it could be the manual position lever sensor(neutral safety switch) so i changed it and i am haveing the same results. I was sure that this was the problem because i read that these mpls's go out often because of water intrusion and the symptoms were exactly what is going on. The night before i noticed it i ran my truck threw some water that definatly could have soaked my mpls.So now i am not sure what to do. THX,jake

Been down the E4OD road before, won't do it again, either C6 or a manual in a Ford truck for me, nothing else.
Sorry to hijack though, I realize my venting doesn't help the OP any.

90 E4OD? or ?
Hi Folks,
I think this is my first post.I have a 90 F-250 w/7.3l/E4OD 4x4.Need some feedback on using the E4OD or using a T19 manual with 3.73 gears.
The engine is done , now for a transmission.Freedom of speech rules, but we also need freedom of information (worldwide info).
Let's hear from YOU.

don't go back in time pre- overdrive with the T-19.remember that's like buying an appliance.the initial cost is not what gets ya.it's the efficiency rating that you look at.
this is why the E40D even at the cost of a few grand to rebuild,is much cheaper than running a c6 or 4 speed manual today @ $4 a gallon.
repair the E40D,or swap in the ZF5 if you prefer manual shift, but remember you won't have the torque multiplication of a converter, and you'll loose a little high gearing for top speeds.

90' E4OD ISSUES
I know a stock 90' E4OD has issues, lube, weak parts, shift speeds ect. I am only planning on running 260 HP 7.3 IDI running it easy on the streets and some towing.Let's hear what the story is on this unit. I have been getting some feedback from rebuilding parts suppliers, but of course ,this is not complete.
