What is your dream engine/drivetrain combo in a dentside?

The title says just about everything you need to know. Hypothetical situation: you have UNLIMITED funds, you can spend them on ANYTHING for the engine and drivetrain in your dentside, and you have all the time in the world to make everything work right. What would your drivetrain be?

Mine would be a 7.3 Powerstroke (and twin turbo it), NP435 with an overdrive unit, an NP203/205 doubler, Rockwell axles, and a 9" or 10" lift. Throw some tracks on it (or halftrack, tough decision). Not a hot rod, by any means, but one mean offroader.

Who else thinks about what they COULD do with unlimited funds and time?

I'm not that wild, but I'm getting more and more interested in doing a cummins swap with the NV4500. My work is in the process of doing one in an 04 F350, and my boss has a 79 F250 that's been done. My 76 hi-boy would be sweet with one.

The other thing I've been thinking about is a fuel injected 460 with a few tweeks, and the five speed that came on them in the 90's. This should be a pretty simple swap, and will probably end up being the route I go if I ever get rid of the 390.

that's pretty sweet! my dad was going to give me his 351w efi with the heavy duty zf 5 speed, but decided to use the donor truck as a farm truck and kept it for himself instead. would be a pretty sweet build though! hope to see some pics of that!

I've already got it. 300 I6 with a C6. Only things I would add to make it the "dream" rig would be the Offenhauser 4BBL intake, a set of headers, and the gear vendors overdrive unit.

Doesn't take much to make me happy.

I'm just glad I finally have a dent.. But mine would be a built 429 with a NP435/205 and D60 front and rear (rear would be set up for rear steer) I think it would be awesome..

If they ever perfect the technology, I'd like to shove a huge hydrogen/electric hybrid plant into one of these trucks.....big power plus economy....in a 6300lb truck...I'd drive Buford everywhere just to have environmentalists give me garbage, only to find out that I probably would get better mileage than they do, and be better on the environment.

I know both Ford and Mercedes have been working on this for years, and they still haven't gotten it nailed down. There's a company in France that came up with a prototype that they ran on a go-kart that screamed, but it was built to scale. Now, just make it about the displacement of a 460, and shoe horn it into Buford, and I'd be a happy camper. I've already got the NP205, the GV overdrive, and all the other things I want, so that'd be the one thing I'd like to see.

Ahhhh, to dream.

Mines not an outrageous set up, i could do it if i really wanted to.
I would just like to take a triton v10 and throw in there, i think it would be fun.

My stepdad has one in his 01 F350, someday he may go to start her up and nothin will happen

I am pretty happy with the 445ci, but if we're talking dreams here then I would be in the market for a 526ci FE ($20k). Lots of goodies on that of course. Might even make a twin turbo set up for it. So it would be around 800+hp N/A and 1000hp+ turbo'd and God knows what tq. Bolt that up to either the good old NP435 with a Gearvendors unit, or a ZF5. I might need a different trans too with that much juice. Go into the NP205/203 doubler and out to 2.5ton Rocks. There would be about 12" of lift and all that power would be turning 44s or maybe some type of Ag tires. 5.13 gears. Pretty much a bigger better Bigfoot #1. hahaha

Really I like Behemoth's idea of a new technology powerplant that makes good power with less fuel to take jabs at the people giving you dirty looks for driving an old truck they think is a gas guzzler.

If only my wallet was endless!!

Easy....A 73 Shortbed 2WD with a Jon Kaase-built 750 HP Boss Nine backed by a T56 sending power to a Ford 9-inch with 5.29 or 4.56 gears. Back halved with 335/30-20s or something as meaty.

Dreams can come true.

EDIT:..... My rig is a Hybrid. It burns gasoline and oil.

I've noticed an interesting phenomenon.....that was Sleepy's 666th post, and it contained a degree of evil in it. He wants to take a "jab" at snooty environmentalists. Maybe the 666th post brings out the evil in us! As for myself, I'm naturally crotchety by nature.

Haha I thought about that too. Maybe I should make some kind of deal with el diablo, seeing as it just so happened to be the 666th post and it was everything I wanted for a drivetrain. It would be "the truck of destiny"! The diablo's tooth could be the start key. lol

That's a Tenacious D reference for those who don't know.

The cummins idea is very intriguing, I've driven my bosses 79. It's an extra cab, dana 60 front and rear, industrial cummins with a 5 speed, custom flatbed, and winches front and rear. Very cool truck. Since he bought this truck, he's gotten into this cummins swap (hence the swap we're working on for the 04 F350). For anyone who's interested, the place he's buying parts is Fordcummins.com, they claim to know how to put a cummins in any of these trucks.
