2008 F350 Powestroke Blowed Up

2-12-2011 I Purchased 2008 F350 6.4 Powerstroke with 37028 miles on it, on March 29 2011 with 37779 miles on it, it BLEW UP, #2 cyl No Compression, after being at the dealership I purchased it from for a month, yesterday finally heard How Ford want's to fix it, A block, with the only component being a "2 piston rod assy. Isn't this a bunch of crap, I am not at all happy with Ford or the dealership. What do you all think about this crap.

Short block seems fair to me. They will check the heads out when they get them off. What do you think you need a whole new engine? They will do it right...

I agree with Lakedweller, I think they will do it right mainly because they are going to have to stand behind it for at least a little while. They won't want to do another costly repair on their dime to save a few hundred bucks.

Bottom line is if they take it apart and see bearing problems on the crank, they will either machine or replace the crank as well. But at the same time they aren't going to replace 7 good pistons and rods if they are still in good shape.

One question I have is when it "blew up", did it just shutoff or continue to spin? The "just shutoff" version would tell me that the damage is isolated and you really have very little to worry about with metal being thrown all over and damaging other parts. The "continue to spin" version would mean that it's a crap shoot as to whether it stayed isolated to Piston #2 or you experienced collateral damage from the primary problem.

I'm interested to see how this works out for you. Please keep us informed if you get it fixed to your satisfaction.

Doesn't sound like hes getting a short block. Sounds to me like hes getting a bare block, a number 2 rod and piston and all his old components back.

Ford will fix it right and you will be happy. They do not intend to short change you. The dealer pretty much not in control of warranty Ford tells them what to do. If you can convince Ford they will pass it down to the dealer. As soon as the dealer pulled the engine and determined the damage they go to Ford for what is needed to do a proper repair. I know this is frustrating but they will get it right. I can assure you that if the dealer did not go to bat for you Ford would gone down the path they wanted, but your truck would have been right...

!!! JACKPOT !!! Ding ding ding!!!

Sounds like you won a pretty good deal. Like was said earier, I bet if there is any damage on the heads you will get it/them replaced. The injectors are a big bonus!!! I don't know anything about the 6.4L, but it sounds like maybe they feel like the injectors you have could have caused the problem in the first place. Either way, you've got a fairly fresh motor. Don't forget to drive it break-in style for a little while.

My guess would be leaking injectors causing an overfueling situation. Usually that is #8 though.

Sounds like they are headed down the right path to me. I do understand your frustration, though. Maybe you can get them to throw in some of them fancy paper floor mats?

That would be my guess also. In the future, use a fuel additive that adds lubricity. It will help prevent this from happening again.

Ford also gives a 1 year warranty on all repairs done at Ford houses using OEM parts. So, yes they will stand behind their work and do it right. Just be sure and ask for this and get them to state it on the repair bill!
