1968 f100 360 with hard start and stalling issues
I have a 1968 f100 with the stock origional 360 that has developed hard starting, poor running and immediate stalling issues directly upon picking it up from a transmission shop after they replaced a leaking pan gasket, only a few monthes after they rebuilt tranny. As I tried to drive away it was very hard to start and stalled before I made it out of the lot. According to the Manager it acted in the same manner since they received the truck, even though I drove to the shop just fine. I asked him why they never mentioned it when calling me nor when I pick the truck up to no avail.
The truck does sit off and on, but always starts and runs great. The carb appears to get gas and the inline filter looks clear. I replaced the plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, and coil (the old one was leaking oil badly upon pulling the wire). It does have a Pertronix Ignitor II electronic ignition and I'm wondering if it was affected when the coil went bad. I'm running out of ideas and it's hard to test if I can't get it running to check for spark and etc. Any ideas would be great! I've included a YouTube video URL of my truck:

Maybe they bumped the distributor or loosened some wires when doing the transmission are you sure no problems like this has happened before you got it back from the shop? it possibly could be worn timing chain or gearing but I don't think this would be your problem if it ran good until after you got it back

Check and reset the timing, pull and check the fuel pump, look in the fuel pump hole with a light and inspect the timing chain and gears. If the timing gears/chain are stock original, good time for replacement. Afterwards, put a vacuum gauge on the engine and adjust the carb after it has been cleaned and the timing reset. Might also run some Sea Foam through your crankcase and fuel system...did that to my 69 F250 with 360/C6 yesterday and it blew a lot of smoke...but now runs like a striped ape. I doubt the tranny service had anything to do with your problem...probably just coincidental...unless they monkeyed with the engine.

If the shop just replaced a pan gasket, there is nothing there that would have caused any problems. I would check into the carb, see if the choke was affected in any way. Since you do not drive it much, there may be internal carb issues as well. When you replaced the plugs, did you open them up to Pertronix specs? Also, you can put the points back in to see if that works.

check your wires- maybe the ground strap from the block to the firewall?
i took mine in for a transmission rebuild about 1.5 years ago. they were VERY sloppy putting it back in, and left my trigger wire to the mini-starter up against the exhaust manifold.
it was burned halfway through before i even got the car home.
