'95 5.0 towing cam

I have a '95 Bronco with 37s on it, and a 5.0. I need more low end power, can i put in a larger cam without modification? If so, what's a good cam for me?

a larger cam will only give minor gaines in a 5.0.

what gears are you running in your bronco?

I would just put a set of 1.7 ratio rocker arms on it , the stock roller cam isn't bad , but like above what gears ? with 37s you might want 4.88 gears for the 5.0.....

There are a few cams that would swap in and not upset the computer but it's mostly a waste of time, add 1.7 rockers to the stock cam and longtube headers and you'll have about as much low end power as a 5.0 will produce... which still won't be enough to turn those giant meats with any authority.. you need 4.88 gears.

I haven't looked under it to see what gears it's running, but i'd imagine no lower than 4.10s. I just bought this Bronco from a dealer, it wasn't jacked up to mudbog, but instead to look pretty, but i intend to give it purpose. The truck is fair offroad, for a truck with stock gears & an NP435 swapped into it. It doesn't pull very strong running down the road, that's my main problem. I want to run this thing down the highway like i've done with other large 4x4s, but this thing is having none of it.

I bought the truck from a dealer a few weeks ago, they were asking $3,500, but the came down to $1,400. They (and i) believed the motor was knocking, and it would barely run. I drove it 20 miles home about 50mph, running like crap. I intended to stick it in the mud and run it until it broke, then swap something big into it, but after i got home and put a fresh battery on it, the thing ran smooth except for the knocking. I revved the engine and noticed the knocking stopped while revved. The knocking ended up being the exhaust rattling against the frame. Now the damn thing runs absolutely perfect (except for idler pulley chirping), too good to drop out of it.... dangit.

I wish i could get away with running 3.50s after i upgrade to 39s (37s actually too small on it). I have an '81 parts bronco with limited slip axles rusting out back, but it has 3.50 gears under it.

Why would you want to run anything but the proper gear ratio for that size tire? you are making the motor work way to hard to try and turn those meats. if you dont want to upgrade gears then drop down to 33's at minimum. your motor will thank you for it as would your axles. 36" tires are about max on the bronco's halfton diffs just so you know. unless its going to be a pavement queen of course.

4.10's were a special order in 1/2 ton trucks(either by the customer or the dealer), the common ratios in regular production trucks were 3.55, 3.31, and 3.08!! The axle code on the drivers door pillar decal will give you the axle ratio...

I'd like to have one in one of those old buggy's that looked like the VW bug. That would be a fun toy!
