ok, this time this truck has me stumped. 97 f250 4x4, 460 ci. . check engine lite came on, broke out the trusty code reader and can't find the obd port. looked under drivers side dash, nope, all I could find was an eec port under the hood on drivers side fenderwell. the reader's connector won't fit. anyone care to enlighten me. dealer says it's under dash but 15 mins. of looking got me nothing but a headache. thanxs

 

It is the one you found, eec port under the hood on drivers side fender.
You have an OBD-I truck and you will not have any port inside.

 

Mine is on passagers side by the left knee just under the dash board but that's on a '96

 

But you have an OBD-II truck and his is a OBD-I truck.

 

all vehicles are suppose to be obd2 after 95 but that didnt happen to all somehow if you have the eec then thats what you have i'll bet

 

Not true.
All 1997 5.8L/7.5L (49 States Or Super Duty) and not sold in California were OBD-I trucks.

 

If it has EEC it won't have a OBD II port inside...

 

Not true.
OBD II trucks are still EEC, I think you mean EEC-IV.
OBD II trucks are EEC-V.

EEC: Electronic Engine Control.
EEC-V: Ford's fifth generation EEC system.

 

Thanxs guys. I guess thats what threw me. I assumed that year would have it inside. Is there an adapter made to fit between my obd II reader and the eec? And while Iam online what is the purpose for the vaccum tube and canister filter coming off the H shaped fixture in my intake tubes going to the intake manifold. These would be answered if I could find a shop manual. BTW, this a great forum, glad I found it.

 

OBD-2 scanners are often of no use with OBD-1 vehicles so you're probably gonna need to get an OBD-1 code reader(Equus 3145) or flash the codes on the check engine light. The second method is pretty easy to setup, put a jumper between the STI and Sig_Rtn lines in the EEC test connector, turn the key to run and the codes will begin flashing out.

 

That depends on the MFG of your scanner.
But you can get a scanner to read your codes for about $30.00 at most auto parts stores.

looks like C5 is pretty close . IAC valve maybe ? no wires, looks like 1/2 or 3/4 hose from intake to filter to plastic piece inline with intake tubes from airfilter to throttle body. When it's unplugged from intake tube device(?) it pulls some serious vaccum!

 

Do you see something that looks like it in this photo?

The hose and filter are below the intake hoses where they connect to the throttle body. You can't see them in this photo.
