Later trans to 351 Windsor

Will a 1997/98 5 speed that came behind a 4.2 V6 bolt up to a 1995 351 Windsor?

Highly doubt it.

It is also an M5OD behind the 4.2...your 351W did not come with that from the factory. Ever.

4.2 has the SBF bell pattern so it's a possible bolt up, but flywheel, starter, input length etc needs to be confirmed for it to work.

This would be ok for easy light load use.

Thanks for that. The 5 speed is coming out of an F 150. The guys pictures aren't too good but it looked like a SBF bolt pattern. Everything that could possibly go wrong computerwise with my '95 has. The body, frame, engine and suspension are all good. My plan is re-make the truck with no computer parts or electronics. Definitely no EFI. The dash cluster is coming out and mechanical gauges are going back in. I've already heard from several guys on here who think I'm screwing up but I'm an analog guy. I can fix things that don't have little Chinesium electronic parts that you can't always find when you're stuck on the side of the road.

Problem is all the analog parts come from China now too. But most of these trucks are at or beyond their planned useful lifespan now so more and more people are having to do something to keep them running if they don't want to buy into a newer vehicle. I scrapped my '90 because it had become electrically unreliable so I'm at least somewhat sympathetic.
That trans should work, if not an AOD would be another option. I had one with a shift kit in my '90 behaind a 5.8 for several years without issue.

Good to know the 4.2 has that bell older bell, I knew it was not a mod pattern. I see plenty of 87-96s in the yards with the M5OD, at least with that gen you know it will bolt up and function fine.

Agreed on the AOD, solid trans with extra direct clutch, 2" OD band, external cooler, and a good valve body.
