Which fair are you going to?

Honda and Yamaha are the premier units, nice and quiet.

 

We went to Vermont to pick up our new trailer yesterday.....

 

That dual cam setup looks like a cobbled together conglomeration of cheap hardware store junk. I am sorry BGX, not picking on you at all, I am just surprised at the conjobulation reese has there. I would think a big towing equipment company like reese would have a better setup then that.

personally if it were mine I would get rid of those chinsy "cams" and do just strait chains from the bars to the trailer. They would allow free'er movement, wouldn't bind up like those cams, and wouldn't creek and bang and make all kinds of noises on turns.

 

The ball will help. Make sure it has a high rating (I think mike is 25,000 lbs). Is it really a 2" rise? That seems high. You need to balance off raising the ball with the leverage that will be applied to the hitch head.
Take a look at my photo in post #1086, I'm pretty sure mine is closer to 1". I know that what I have works, I can measure it for you tonight.

 

Yes, 2" rise. It said 30,000 lbs from Curt.

 

I would talk to Reese - they may have a problem with 2". I'll see if I can get someone to get a part number or measurement off mine....

 

Granted I'm in the Hitch business, but I have very limited experience with the DC, it's too much of a pain for most.

I run a standard chain style setup with a friction sway controller. For you guys with longer setups I'd go with two.

If you are going to spend bigger money on a nice WD I'd recommend the Husky Centerline hitch.

I've even personally used the nice Equilizer brand hitches and right now on our 27' I stick with the cheaper round bar / chain kits.

They are simpler and waaaay more forgiving in the setup and accomplish the same thing....weight distribution. Let the sway controller do its part on its own.

I'm not saying they are better than the DC but they may not be worth the headache, and I don't feel your sacrificing going the other route.

I've sent a message to the supplier asking if I can cancel the order until I do more research. I might just pull this weekend without the DC and put the chains straight up to the snap up clamps, at least until I can get this figures out. If I do that would I need to drop the WD bars when backing in?

 

I would not worry about disconnecting them unless you are jack knifing it, then I would unhook them regardless of what the hitch is.

Keep in mind you won't have the "sway prevention" aspect of that hitch without the cam brackets in use.

 

I picked up one of these 8 years ago when I didn't have enough money for a Honda or Yamaha.

I've got a single Honda EU2000i now, but need a second as I now have an A/C unit to run. The Hondas are the best, IMO. I run mine on a 6 gal. outboard tank. It'll run for a month on a partial load. OK, I'm exaggerating........ but it actually run for 4 days.

I am assuming since the power requirement on the trailer is 120/30 amp and the gennie is only rated on the duplexs 120/20 amp and the 120/240 plug is also rated 20 amps.

 

If I get the EU2000i companion and the parallel cables, I'd have a 120/30a RV style plug on the companion.
