Four people is fine. Any potential problem lies in removing the bed bolts, which are a notorious PIA. My bed has 8 bolts, and I wound up having to grind two of them off.

Replacement bolts are torque-to-yield, and aren't exactly cheap.

Spray the bed bolts with PB Blaster and allow it to soak. (from the bottom) Have a torch and several big torx bits available, as you will likely break one (or more) (of the bits) Size varies a bit by year. Sometimes you can weld a nut to the bolt top.

There are a number of things attached to the bed, including the fuel fill. Again, depends a bit by year.

4 folks who have had their spinach can lift it off.

When you put it back together paint the bed bolts, or the grade 8 replacements, with anti-seize.

While the bed is off rinse off the frame and paint it with POR-15 or equivalent.

Curious? Why are you removing the bed? Are you doing some kind of modification?

There are three screws inside the fuel door, all the wiring for the tail lights, and pulling the back bumper makes it easier to slide backwards and off.

I used T55 torx bits IIRC.

The bits are actually Torx-Plus, not regular Torx. Torx-Plus has thicker, stronger lobes, which is why regular Torx breaks in this application. The stock bolts are self tapping into the clips, so they usually gall and are near impossible to remove without cutting them from underneath.

thanks for your help and replys

I sprayed in the screws with rust off and that was very helpful. One Torx bit is broken (home improvement store) and now I have to wait until Tuesday (Easter at the moment).
For your question "mikemass" No modification the border is a little bit twisted and so it is easier to remove the bed and then repair this.
But one question did I have @texastech_diesel what did you mean with IIRC ?

Thanks a lot

best regards

Actually, it only takes one person to lift the bed. Well, one person and two engine hoists....

They are Torx Plus 45. Which, BTW, shattered into bits after removing 2 of 8 bolts.

Just cut them off and save yourself from destroying a $10 impact Torx. Youll need a new set anyway. Dorman sells 8 of them for $38 on amazon.
