Getting the Back-Up Camera to Stay On All the Time?
Is there any mod or hack to get the rear-view back-up camera to stay on all the time?
I have a 2008 Expedition Limited fully decked-out, and the camera's image shows up in the monitor in the rear-view mirror when the vehicle is in reverse.

Check out Ford Lockpicks. I have it on mine and it works like a dream. You can monitor your loaded trailer while driving plus a whole lot more.

ExpeditionJim, I would think you could tap into the reverse signal wire going to the mirror and put a switch in. If someone had the wiring diagram it would be really helpful. I thought I read somewhere that the camera is on all the time anyway so the mirror may just be looking for "ground" to show the image.
nckracer, I think the Ford LOCKPICK works on the 2009 and up Expys that have the rearview image show up on the NAV screen. The 07 and 08 had it show up on the rearview mirror so I dont think it would apply here.

Matt,
Yes, the camera is on all the time and the mirror is activated by the reverse signal. The camera only has a (vid +), (vid -), 12V+ and ground wire. The mirror had the reverse signal input.
The lockpick for the 07 and 08's gives the nav unit a video input so that the camera image can be displayed on it.
Jim,
Since the camera is on all the time, maybe you could wire a 12V source and switch to turn the image on whenever you want?
