Is the hitch thing for receiver hitches or does it include bumper hitches where the ball is essentially within the bumper's envelope?

I did a websearch and it appears that the law is that the ball or any part of the hitch cannot block any part of the license plate. Another state has a law that says if the receiver and ball stick out more than 4" from the vehicle, a red protective cover needs to be placed over the ball (i.e., shin alert).

I would put a red cone over that sumbitch.
Why would people walk so close to the beack a truck anyway.
I hate bumping my shin on them hitches so thats why I dont walk so close to them and i open my eyes.

Here in Illinois it is the receiver hitch only. You can not travel around with your hitch in the receiver unless of course it is attached to a trailer.....

Seth, some of us are beginning to enter our dotage (look that one up!).What I'm saying is,I'm getting decrepit.More to the point,I'm oblivious to my surroundings.

I've smacked myself on the mirrors of SUV's,and nailed my shins on hitches/bike-racks while cutting between vehicles in parking lots. You'll be where some of us now are, eventually.LOL

Your dotage has affected your memory kiddo, cuz you mis-quoted William Claude Dukenfield. The following is correct and is "off the cuff" so...the dotage I have...ain't affecting my memory...yet.

"I met a beautiful blond once who drove me to drink, that's one thing I'm indebted to her for!" - W. C. Fields

"I hate you!" - W.C. Fields' most often used line in his films, and on radio.

Coupla more a my favorites...

"I like children...girl children, between eighteen and twenty."

"I like children...parboiled."

"Charlie McCarthy, the woodpeckers pin-up boy."

If you don't know who Charlie McCarthy was, your Fields 'kick' needs improvement.

Bill, I can only talk about my county on fine amounts and the fine here is $288 for handicap parking. If you don't believe me I will give you the phone number for county collections and you can check yourself. I write a fair amount of these to protect spaces for people like you who have a placard. I just was dealing with them this week on a handicap parking cite and that is the current amount HERE. I too feel it should be more, but then again our county has exceptionally low bail amounts. Our jail books for an adjoining county and their bail schedule is extremly more and their parking fines are about three times ours on some offenses.

As far as the trailer hitch stinger, the only law I can find in CA is one that says you can not obstruct the view of the license plate, it don't matter if it is a trailer ball, bike rack, snow or what ever. Before anybody says "it is blocked by a trailer when towing" there is another law (of course there is, we are talkling CA) that says the rear vehicle, e.g. the trailer when being towed must have a visible plate.

According to the LA Times, the fine inre to handicap parking without placard or DP plates, increased statewide 1/1/2011 to $976.00 for the first offense.

Since my source is the LA Times, if anyone needs to call and verify, it's whoever wrote the article, listing all the new CA laws and fine increases.

Why Truckee is exempt, I dunno. Last time I looked at a map, an earthquake hadn't caused Truckee to move east to NV

Wait a minute! I thought everything on the internet was true. Great, now I have to verify every source that I found on the internet while writing my PhD thesis paper.

Ross, I see ALBUQ F-1... Can I take that as Albuquerque? What side town do you call home? I spent some of my younger years in Albuquerque. Junior and senior high school. Military brat and followed in the same tradition after high school. Longest time my dad was station in one place. I really like Albuquerque.

You are correct, sir! I actually live in Rio Rancho now, westside. (If you add your location to your Profile, it will show up on the right hand side of your posts)

Not such a nice place today, 30 - 35 mph blowing sand... I work out on KAFB sometimes (Sandia Labs), love to watch the military planes coming in/taking off!

Don't want to highjack this thread so just one more thought and we can just email each other. It is so great to talk to someone from Albuquerque. Rio Rancho,,, we used to call it Rio Rancho Estates back then. All new housing back then. We lived in the North East heights. Lexington ave just off Juan Tabo Blvd. We had the 'first' house built that was east of Eubank Blvd. Dad was in the Air Force there and my mom worked at Manzano Base. She is 89 yrs young this year and as of today, she will still not tell me what she did there. She said I really don't want to know. ??? I know there was some very highly classified stuff going on there back then. May still be. If your working out that way, I'm sure you have heard what they have in the mountain, (Manzano mountain). I wonder if the 3 fences with the electrified center one is still around the mountain. I remember as a kid, we could see the fences from a long way off but you would have been arrested if you got anywehre close to it.
