CEL, missing, and possible diesel in oil

On way to ky for easter 120 miles into trip, get a CEL and it starts missing and bucking. Pulled over everything looks fine under the hood, checked oil and it looks like there's diesel in it. Any ideas?? Trying to find somewhere to get the code pulled right now. Any thoughts????

Definitely check the valve cover gasket connections and UVC's. To check if there is fuel in the oil do this. Take a clean white paper towel. Pull the dipstick and let it drip on the paper towel. If the oil drop develops a wet halo around it, that's diesel fuel. If no halo, no fuel.

Is the crank case over full ?...I can't think of a way for fuel to get in the CC ..

Update - Got the truck towed home last night, starting with a clear head today. When i first pulled over the reason i checked my oil was because there was some steam coming from the top of the dipstick tube, this is when i first noticed a few rainbow colored bubbles on the dipstick, it looked like either dish soap or diesel so I went with the obvious. dipstick smells like fuel when truck is shut off. not at all once it sits for a few minutes. did the "halo" test this morning.

Pictures by hignutt - Photobucket

by eye the halo is clearly greenish and the middle is black.

Want to drive it to get the codes pulled but really dont want to hurt anything worse.

My buddy said maybe an injector is sticking and fuel is leaking past the rings into the cc. Anyone ever heard of this?

Not by any chance it's coolant? Like stated above I'm not sure how fuel gets into oil, but I have seen coolant in the oil, oil in the fuel, and diesel in the coolant.

If it's leaking past the rings that would be alot of fuel and alot of smoke or at least I would think so.

Another update.....Went out and got a crafstman 87702 obd2 scanner, plugged in, no codes stored...weird. Did KOER test, came back with P0475 Exhaust pressure control valve, P0476 exh press control valve range/performance. Im guessing these are from unplugging EBPV? the other two were P0341 - cam pos sensor A circuit range performance (bank 1 or single sensor) and P0344 cam pos sensor A circuit intermittent (bank 1 or single sensor), are these normal? Ive put about 4 cam sensors in this thing in the past 5 years and it was always because it wouldnt start and no tach.

decided to take a drive to try and get another CEL, let warm up, drove out to the interstate and did 5 miles and back running from 65-80mph.....NO CEL, no missing, running like normal. Checked oil when i got home, few bubbles on stick when first shut off, but no diesel smell or colors.

Oil is full and coolant is full.

dipped stick a few times and noticed a couple metal shavings at the end of it everytime before i wiped it off. Could these be coming from the dipstick tube?

I drained about a cup of oil from the pan and i currently have it filtering thru a coffee filter to see if i can find any of those shavings.

Any more Ideas??? Any ideas as to why no codes were stored from yesterday?

I appreciate any help and hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Shavings on stick are from first curve in dipstick tube, verified by wiping stick clean and only going to the first curve then pulling out, not actually going into the oil. Anyone else ever notice this?

In process of checking UVCH wiring and connections. Pulling valve covers and checking in there tomorrow.

Going to go thru wiring real good and if everything looks ok just going to keep my scanner in the cab and scan it if it does it to me again.

The guarding over the harness is taped up with orange electrical tape. Does this mean the harness has been changed before, or did they come like that?

Also changing oil.

IIRC, the orange tape is factory. I've never heard of pulling shavings from the dipstick tube. Check the wiring up to your cam sensor real good too.
