88 zf 5 speed 4.9L 2wd Q's
I picked up a zf '42 for my "hot rod" truck im building.Hot rod in quotes because it will more likely be a hot rod that hauls my other hot rod. Having never worked with a ZF, I was hoping to get some help with parts selection. The big thing i need to know is if this windsor pattern housing is big enough for a 164 tooth wheel and 11 inch clutch. The national parts stores for a 88 250 4.9l "says " it fits. However their databases in the past have let me down. I cant imagine Ford would have modified the windsor bell style for this transmission. But honestly, it wouldnt surprise me. Just looking for some to say yes I run a 11 inch clutch.
This transmission is going behind a EFI Ceveland. Yes a cleveland has a windsor bell pattern and windsor engine mounts.
If memerory serves me ford made the 28 oz to 50oz change in 81, but im not 100%
If a 164 tooth does fit, I lso was wondering if anyone knew what vehicles came OE with 164 tooth 28 oz flywheels. The parts stores do not list the flywheel offsets when you pull up the part. I can use a OE style flywheel . Im not building a 8k rpm monster, and the cam isnt much better than stock( but its still better). I really dont want to spend for an sfi approved flywheel.
This was the only transmission that i could find that from the factory could handle 400+ torque. A z spec t5 or tko500 had a price tag that did not agree with me. And a 2wd windsor zf was not easy to find as well. The ZF has the best of both worlds, granny gear for pulling and OD for cruising.

You don't know what flywheel and ring gear your combination needs?
Or what? :)
