1977 build thread with pics

well, if you can hold off scrapping it for about another 8 or 9 months till I get back to the U.S. I may be interested in some of the parts from it.... especially the compressor and bracket, if it works that is. depending on where in the country you are located too....lol
I havent really looked at headers besides L&L lifetime headers and I was thinking about going with fender well exit headers

I'm head back to my house again this weekend to work on the engine. So I was wondering if anyone had pictures of the front of a 460 from a truck so I can see how all the brackets line up, and a picture of the intake with all the sensors and plugs in so I can figure out all that.
Also any tips of putting the intake on? I've heard its better to use permetex on the front and back of the intake instead of the gasket, but I noticed there are holes in the block and little tabs on the gasket to keep it from getting pushed out. Also I bought the matching Edelbrock bolt to go with the intake, should I torque them the same as the stock bolts?

I did use the gaskets all around since the instructions for the intake didn't say otherwise, but it said to use Edelbrock Gasgacinch on the intake to heads gasket but I didn't so I hope that wasn't really important. Anyway I got the intake and Carb on then the really fun started...
I tried to get the brackets on for the alternator and Power Steering but the apparently something changed in 1977 with the brackets so the P/S bracket from the old 400 won't work on the 1973 460. I did get the alternator bracket with the 460 so that should work. So were either going to buy the L&L brackets or find some stock ones, any suggestions?
anyway thats a night work and the rest of the weekend went to messing around with brackets and finishing some other stuff up

Brackets were one on the largest pains in my butt with my 460 swap. I don't think the 460 power steering pump bracket is the same as a 400, for any year. Not only do you need to make sure that the brackets locate the PS and ALT out of the way of your crossmember and steering gear, you need to be sure that the pulleys are all spaced appropriately to line up the belts.
L&L brackets would certainly make life easier, but a pretty decent cost. And you still have to make sure you have the proper crank and water pump pulleys. Your best bet is to locate a truck or van in a junkyard and take everything from one engine. All pulleys and brackets. Get the belts too if you can so its easier to find replacements, and they usually want the same price regardless of whether or not you get the pump and alt from the donor vehicle, so grab them as cores, or they may be in good shape.

Well when I was back a few weeks ago I found the old water pump laying around and noticed it had a plate on it, and I remember there wasn't a plate with the new one. So my dad looked into and got a new one from Ford. Wow that could have been really bad, anyone now what would have happened if i didn't catch that?
Any way this weekend is Residents only pheasant season so I'm headed home tomorrow to hunt. Friday afternoon I should be able to get the water pump plate put on. My dad did some searching and found me some OEM brackets on ebay that will work for my engine so I'll get the brackets on and hopefully everything will line up.

Well this thread has slow down significatly because of my lack of time to work on it, I'm only home on the weekends and only work on the truck at night because I'm hunting during the day (priorities right)
I manged to get the P/S bracket and pump on correctly and the alt bracket should work but since I took the engine apart almost 3 years ago I have mis placed some bolts and parts which includ but no limited to the 3 other bolts for the alt bracket the the small spacer the goes between the block and alternator.
I did prime the oil system and put my new valve cover's on
don't worry that distributor is there to plug the whole I have a nicer one laying around
Basically I'm doing little things since I need the headers (which I'm still undecided on chassis or fenderwell exit) and radiator to get this project fired up again but until then there won't be much done, sorry

made some progress on this long weekend
the bolts for the headers are not thread all the way in because there only temporary because I bought the wrong stage 8 bolts so i'm waiting for them and then I can put the Remflex gaskets in there too.
I also have the brakes all done, everything is new and I cleaned and packed the bearings a few weeks ago
after the cab is put on I replaced all the vacuum lines, then took the old electrical tape and insulation on the wires off and inspected them, had to solder a few wires and then wrapped them in new electrical tape and split tubing
