Is it still locking and unlocking okay?

Mine stopped locking and temps ran up to 260* Long story short its going to the trans shop tomorrow for a rebuild and some go fast goodies.

If its bad, its bad now. It will only get worse. Depending on how it's failed it can overheat and burn the fluid causing the transmission to slip, burning up the frictions and steels. Once that happens it's time for a rebuild, and the lines and cooler(s) will need to be flushed to remove the debris and burned fluid. I'd have it changed ASAP along with flushing the transmission, lines and cooler. You don't want any possible debris in there.

Your on borrowed time. Running around with a bad TC is NOT a good thing at all, if anything it's destroying the internals of your trans.

thanks guys i mean im guessing that its bad because it has shuddered but yet there is times where my tranny will feel as smooth as anything and not shudder at all.....so could there possibly be another problem?
and also what do you mean by locking and unlocking?

My last '93 Lightning had a bad case of torque converter shudder when I purchased it with less than 60k miles on it. I shied away from the snake oil products, instead I did a complete fluid change..all 18+ quarts. Problem was solved.

Some people think that simply draining the pan, etc...And not changing the TQ Converter fluid along with it, is ok...it's not....

Some years had a drain plug....Some didn't....

I'd simply drop the tranny, and do it that way....

Here's some info to chew on....

Also, check ALL of the connex. Loose dirty connex, miss adjusted TPS can cause the E4OD many troubles.

you should replace it before it takes out the trans.
even if it's just a budget used one.could mean keeping your trans around much longer.

here is what happens when they come apart:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...some-pics.html

your another reporting problems with it way up there in 230k+ miles.
kinda makes a feller wonder just how failure prone stock converters really are doesn't it lol.iv never had any trans last so long.
