I have to grab my hood from the side and move towards the front just to be able to close it cause I can't reach the front. And I'm 6'5.

I see you had the same "problem" I had. The struts say right on the side that you should install them with the shaft down when in the closed position. The tubes don't clear the body in that position, so you have to install them with the shaft facing UP while closed. It's a minor difference in terms of fitment but may reduce the life of the strut in adverse weather areas. I'm in Southern California so I expect I'll probably see no difference either way.

Great thread I wished I would have seen this 2 weeks ago. After not finding any lift struts at local auto parts places I had Ford replace them while they were replacing the rear ac module. I'm tall and would have loved the extra clearance of these struts. Oh well anything is better than using my head to hold up the hatch while loading stuff.

I used a small rubber/plastic hammer to "massage" the sheet metal seams to clear the strut body. I also have the shorter 15.25" supports not the longer 15.87" ones, I'm not that tall.

I just got mine installed. Shaft is up when closed, down when open like everyone eles'. I love the extra clearance. Will come in handy with the bike rack and camper attached.

Finally got my eX back from headstud upgrade to ARP so that I could install the lift gate upgrade - love it! No more hitting my forehead grabbing stuff out of the rear hatch. Original shafts were also installed tubes down and shafts up. So, I see no issue with the upgrade being installed the same way. I added some grease to the mounting stud joints and I hope that's ok. Figured it would keep things quiet.

My struts stopped working today ordered the 15.87" lift version
as posted in the initial post (an many others).

6421EX part # (both on Amazon and Lift Supports Depot)
$34 + 7.65 shipping from Amazon (Lift Supports Depot) for the pair.

Pretty much same price on both sites, but 1/2 the shipping on amazon

They just arrived at my door. The box was jacked up (was delivered by a guy in a Uhaul van) but the shocks seem to be ok. Plan to install this weekend and will give an opinion later...
