Lightbulb Rough Road Test

98 5.4 EB. I have noticed a cause for my pain. Example today; There was a several not too deep broken pavement areas that I went over at city speed. The engine immediately started "faltering", then the anti theft came on blinking 1-6. The engine shut off. I put it in neutral and it restarted before coming to a stop. The anti theft kept blinking 1-6 for about 5 minutes then stopped.

In the past when this has happened I had to disconn the battery to get going. I have been having shut down issues and immediate anti theft issues for several hundred miles now. My wife has had to get towed 2 times this year and both times the Expi cranked right up when unloaded. Each time the check engine light goes off before I can read the codes.

Anyone with ideas or experience about how the vibration from chuck holes can cause these symtoms please post. A list of possiblities to analyze will really be helpful.

I really hate OBD2.

Update

As I stated I had all kinds of failures going on. Over the weeks I spent many hours searching this forum looking for hints. I think it was the Superchip on the brain. After spending all yesterday checking everything I could find suggested on this forum (and almost getting stranded road testing each time) I finally got to the chip item on my list. It was installed in 2000. I pulled the eec out removed the chip, cleaned and polished the chip and board contacts. Put it back and road tested about 30 miles and over my rough road section. It runs like a champ so far. I will post again if the symptoms come back.

My thanks to the knowledgeable guys here who continually help and suggest. I would not have looked at the chip had I not seen that mentioned on this forum.

By the way- befor the chip fix I finally got the check engine light while I was in a safe position and ready to pull the codes before turning off the ignition. It gave vehicle not responding. Even after turning off the ignition then doing koeo connection I still got vnr. After cleaning the Superchip with no check engine light I did get dialogue with the code reader -no codes found.
