No throttle,, 2005 F150-5.4 3V

When driving the wrench light comes on, on the dash instrument panel,, truck will drop to idle,, it will run/drive at idle speed.. There is no throttle,, push the gas pedal and nothing.. 85,000 mile on vehicle.. Turn off and restart and it is fine,, until it happens again.. Any input would be greatly appreciated..

Well lucky for you, since your check engine light came on you should have a trouble code stored in your truck's ECM computer.
When your truck "acts up", it goes into "limp home mode", which is basically protecting your engine in a sense.

First thing I would do is get it scanned.
(at dealership, local garage, or you can get it scanned yourself with Edge tunner or autozone?)

See what code it give you.
Off the top of my head, it sounds like you have a bad COP.
possibly a fuel injector staying open?
or possibly a problem with gas pedal (from pedal sensor to TP sensor).

See what trouble code you get, and let us know.
Tony.

it went into fail safe mode, if it does it again track down the issue but if it was only once it could have just got a bad reading and tripped it. mine did it from keeping it in drive and letting it roll backewards down a hill.

Thanks guys,, took throttle body off and cleaned,, but ended up breaking the factory set idle position and had to order a new throttle body.. The codes I have=P2104 forced idle, P2106 forced limited power, P2111 TB stuck open, P2112 TB stuck closed..

Just where is the throttle position sensor located at ??..

It was going into limp/safe mode about once a year, then it was 2 times in March so I thought I would tangle into it.. Doing it myself to avoid the stealership service department..

I will inform,, throttle body should be here Thursday.. Thanks again..

should be right on the side of the throttle body.2 screws hold it on..If you haven't already, pick up a Haynes/Chilton manual..they're great for help...good luck.

Okay guys,, got the new throttle body with a throttle position sensor on it.. Installed it and buttoned everything up and it is running great.. So much more snappier and responsive..

I did pick up a Haynes manual for it for future projects..

Thanks for all the input and advise.. Got the throttle body off ebay for half the price of the dealers cost..

Hey Eddie,,
I went to auto stores for codes and could not get a definite diagnoses from them, just picked up a bunch of great info from the people here. Do a search on it.. I would loose my throttle response, truck went into limp/safe mode, I would pull over, turn truck off, restart and it was fine until it happened again.. I narrowed it down to the throttle positioning sensor TPS,, which is on the side of the throttle body, when I removed my throttle body I broke the factory idle adjustment so I just put a new throttle body on with the TPS on it, it was a factory take off with about 1000 miles on it and the truck runs great, think I picked it up on eBay for around 150.00

Ok that is great thanks for the quick response I just joined because i have read several post and have had some of the same problems! this did the same thing driving in town pushed on the gas peddle wrench light was on, I thought it died but noticed the rpm was at idle but push on gas peddle and nothing happened, opened the hood I guess just because!! got back in shut it off waited a bit, started it up and it's been ok for the rest of the day?? so at this point I guess I am hoping it won't happen again fingures crossed! I have not worked on this truck been real good I bought it used! One where is the throttle body what does it even look like? and if I need to take it off how do I avoid breaking it like you did! sorry had to say that! and it sounds like if it happens again is a new one or used on in order? and is it hard to change out thanks Eddie pictures? maybe if you have any! Also I just bought a computer for my son on Ebay worked out good but we need a body module still! my quesiton is if i get one off Ebay what do I want or have to make sure I get for the right one! any numbers or just year of my truck it is a 2005 f-150 with the larger v8 5.4 I think
Did a little searching on Ebay under throttle body, Is this what I would need if the problem persist? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Unive...item27bf2cd228
