Fuel Pump Died..so I think

I swear this truck just hates me. It literally breaks sitting still. I was fixing a bad ground at a corroded terminal and had a had troubles cranking over. I fixed the terminals and now when I turn the key on I dont hear the front pump prime . I turn the key off, flip to the rear tank, turn the key on and I hear it prime and the truck runs fine on the rear tank. Would a bad ground and trying to start i cause the pump to die?

What else can I do to troubleshoot? I want to make sure the computer is in fact turning on the pump and the pump is dead.

So, I took off the front panel, to access the switch. I jumped the Brown/white to Red wire and the rear pump primed. I jumped the Red/Yellow to Red wire and nothing.....There is just one fule pump relay for both pumps right?

Looks like I lost a fuel pump trying to fix the corroded terminal

How hard to replace? I really dont think the bed coming off is an option. HELP lol

I doubt you did it by working on the terminal especially if your fuses and relay a all good.... Sometimes things really are a coincidence...

You don't have to lift the bed.. I have no idea why people do that... Just siphon the fuel into some gas cans, loosen the band clamp on the filler hose, drop the skid plate, support the empty tank with a jack or a buddy named Jack, unbolt the two straps and bring it down till you can uplug the wires and disconnet the two fuel lines, you will probably have to unclip the breather from the frame as well...

Once you have it out and disconnected be sure that you check that you have good voltage at that plug before you remove the old pump.... Mine seem to get weak and not just go out all at once...

Pumps are between 100-140 bucks...

Sorry your having problems but look at it this way, eventually you'll have a truck full of all new parts with nothing to go bad....

I substituted some nylon ratchet straps for my buddy "Jack" when I swapped in a new rear tank on my 1992 F350 2 years ago. I agree that pulling the bed is a lot more work.

And you are correct, there is only one fuel pump relay. The tank selector switch on the dash applies power to the desired tank. The fuel gauge shares the same ground as the fuel pump in each tank. So if you lost the gauge too, you can be reasonably sure it is a ground problem.

Yeah I priced a fuel pump and it was 140+ ....money I just spent on the shy RSK. At least I have the rear tank, which is another reason these trucks are so cool. But anything else I should check along with voltage to make sure the pump is the culprit. It was fine till I had the ground battery terminal issue.

A wire with yellow on them in the fuel system wiring has nothing to do with the fuel pump.
They are for the gauge and you should not put power on them.

I am an electronics engineer by trade. I learned Ford wiring and schematics by reading Bill's posts and gathering some of my own Ford documentation.

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Ok. I went off the schematics in the Chiltons manual, I was going from memory late last night so I could be incorrect on the color. So, What would be the correct colors to the dash switch panel for the front tank? I was trying to verify that the switch was in fact working.

Also based off what rla said about the gauges working, they still are, so Im pretty confident I've lost a pump.

Thank you kindly subford Any tips or gotcha's on replacing it? Dropping the tank easiest? Lifting the bed, cutting and replacing the bolts... or cut a hole in the bed and make a removable panel for it

My vote is dropping the tank. I do not have 4 or 5 sober friends close by to lift off the bed. It would cost me a lot of beer to bribe them to come over and work.
