99 ball joint replacement questions

99 2wd F-150. Driver side upper ball joint has some slope in it. In my research I am finding conflicting info. I have read most of the pages in this huge ball joint thread- https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...f-150-4x4.html and they touch on it here and there but I'm still a little confused. Ford says the upper ball joint is part of the a-arm and cannot be pressed out. Some of the parts stores and online shops I have checked sell single upper ball joints with out the a-arm. What the heck???

I understand the lower one can be pressed in/out.

I assume Auto Zone or the like will have a cam bolt kit for this proceedure in stock?

Are Dormen brand joints any good or stick with moog?

Thanks.

I personally stick with moog. And Autozone does sell the camber/caster set for doing an alignment. When I got my Bj at Advance I somehow wound up with a lifetime replacement on my BJ's. Something you might want to look into. As far as the upper BJ without the A-arm, never seen it so I can't say anything about it

upper bj's

I think the uppers can be replaced without the arm if you have previously replaced the arm with one that has replaceable joints. The ones I bought from Auto Zone were exactly the same as the OEM's

i had to replace my inner tie rod on mine. went to autozone it was a 22 dollar part. the stock ones dont have a grease port which is a bit of a joke the duralast ones do and there beefier so i recommend those. and after you replace it get an alignment done.

Buy the Moog upper A-arm. Then in the future you can replace the ball joint with a replaceable Moog ball joint. That will make the top and bottom ball joints both replaceable separately.
