Coolant Leak, Need advise "PICTURES"

Hi There!

I trying to see if this is something that is a easy fix or mayor work.
Leak coming from that metal housing behind alternator. Does this housing came off? or do I need to take out the intake out?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

You need to replace the intake manifold, it's a very common issue on 4.6L ford motors. A leak like that is rare on a 5.4 but it happens. I would avoid aftermarket, they cause all sorts of issues, trust me. I went through 2 Dorman Intakes on an old crown Vic within 3 years. They also cause many issues with the air intake side being smaller as well as narrow coolant passages. Spend the extra and save the headache, go Motorcraft only.

I decide and go with the quick repair, I know, I know is not a last longer fix, but I need to finish something, before the mayor work on this work horse. I hope at least hold for one week.

Consider having it welded also.

There is nothing to weld, the plastic piece at the bottom has failed, nothing to do but change the intake. My shop does these all the time on the 4.6l, haven't seem a 5.4 due this yet but I don't really see all that many. I agree with the above poster, do use an aftermarket, they are garbage...

Mine is doing the same thing. Has been for 2 years but I ignored it and it finally bit me.... a few weeks ago my truck started missing pretty bad and I found it was a misfire on cylinder 3. Further inspection revealed a collection of coolant down in the spark plug well. Also found coolant in the plug wells for #1 and #2.

Here's my thread on the subject..
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-misfires.html

So, I'm gonna do what I should've done 2 years ago... replace the intake with an OEM unit, new gaskets, etc. I'll also replace the plugs while the intake is out and probably the COPs as well...

Hi Jason

Yes I remember that thread, also I tell you that I got the same issue, but I also ignored. I don't know if I go with OEM (depend on price), on amazon you can get ed for $155.00, and for that price I can get him a shoot. By they way your really got a get write-up and pic. on your page. Help me A LOT with my on fix.

Keep you're great work!

Note: My quick fix, really work, run today 75 miles with out leak!
