I have the same tire on my van (215/85X16). I think the 225/70X16 will lower it some but you would have to check the diameter of each tire to confirm how much.

A couple of things to note would be that your overall gear ratio will change which will reduce your fuel mileage a bit but the shorter tire will lower the vans wind resistance so thats a plus! This could be a wash as far as over all mileage.

does your 215 85 16 come with LT or without? is your wheel 16x6 or 16x7?
does it pass under 7 foot?

Tires were installed by previous owner. The tires are a heavy duty tire at their load capacity is a bit over 3000 lbs when inflated to 80 psi. I usually keep them at 50 front and 60-65 psi rear when loaded.

And no the van will not fit inside a garage with a 7 ft door. Not even close, and changing to lower profile tires would not change that on mine.

I can't tell you what to do only what I would do. I will be looking for a lower profile tire when mine wear out. I don't need the 3000 lbs rating on my van tires. The most I've hauled inside the van was about 2000 lb, plus the weight of the van, I was still way under the 12,000 lb capacity of the tires combined!

Yeah, you'd have to steal tires off of a ford Escort if you want it to fit in a 7' garage.
