Is this a recommended or worthwhile upgrade if regasketing an 8BA flathead, to replace the old rope seal with this one piece unit? Will it do a good job, or is it a waste of time and money?

Thats what I run in mine Wayne and I like them. It fills the cavity where the rope seal would be and works better. It has a seal locked in an aluminum housing.

 

There are ones sold that don't have the aluminum carrier like MT says, and flop around in the groove. Obviously not desirable, but still being sold by Name Brand outfits. I think it's a Buick seal?

I'd be more interested in the rear seal, my front rope stays dry as a bone.
