Starter wouldn't disengage...I think I ruined it. Help!
I finished installing a set of spark plugs and Coil packs on my 2000 Lincoln Navigator last night, and when wrapping things up, I think I may have put the battery/starter/alternator leads on the wrong posts of the starter relay (had to remove them to gain access to the pass side plugs/coils). Stupid me though...I neglected to take a picture of the arrangement, before doing so.
The truck started just fine, but when it did, there was this hideous screeching noise that stopped after about 20 seconds. Shut the truck off, and not it won't turn over. Just a click. So...I have this sinking feeling that I might have put the starter relay leads on the wrong terminals...and perhaps caused the starter to not disengage.....thereby burning itself up. Can anybody help? What I really need is a picture of your starter relay (from a model year 2000)....so I can confirm where the leads go. I found this thread ( https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/2...over-help.html ), but it's not clear if the picture in that thread represents the correct arrangement, or the incorrect one.
Once I can confirm, then, it's probably off to the parts store for a new starter
Thanks in advance, John
