Looks like the State of Kansas will be a little richer.

I kind of wonder if it will get to auction or if some senator's brat will get it.

We'd really like to know if it's really a Shelby. Even back in the 80's a few clones were running around.

Still, a great story!!

Paint looks pretty shiny.

$2 million? Some Cobras, but Mustangs seem to be under $200k.

The tires on it were last sold when, early '80s? Not original tires, as Polyglas tires weren't available in '66. (It's a '66 btw).

Whoever buys it needs to see "SFM..." in the vin.

When I first saw that on the news, I was (and am) 99.9% sure it's a clone. They are waaaay to easy to clone, especially the '65-'66 models. All '65's were white, and none had the brake scoops, so it's certainly not a '65 and without the Shelby Vin# (and not a repro tag, which are available) being verified by SAAC, it's a regular Mustang. Not that there's anything wrong with that, hey I built and own a clone myself. But passing it off as the real deal is a cardinal sin.

This thread says '65, but the video says '66. But agree, the paint is too nice to be original unless they shined it up for the pic.

There are far clones than were originally built...
Many people try to pass their clones off as original.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was just another clone...
How do they know it's been in there for 20ish years?
Just because the car is 20 years expired that means nothing...

What Fair found was a classic Shelby Mustang one of only 1,100 made and sold from Carroll Shelby's personal car lot.
I wonder where Fair came up with this phony production figure total and surmised it came from 'ol Shel's so-called car lot?

1966 Shelby GT350 production figure: 1,438 / 1966 Shelby GT350H production figure: 936.

Shelby's Hi-Performance Motors was located at his 'factory' which was a former airplane hanger south of LAX on Imperial Hwy.

In-complete 1965/66 Mustangs were shipped to Shelby, who then made all the changes to convert them to GT350's.

This car looks waaay too nice to have spent 26 years parked in a garage surrounded by junk. It's prolly a fake.

Faaar more fakes exist than the real thing.
