F-250 Questions

Hi, new to this forum, and new to the F-250...
I have a 1994 F-250 Turbo 7.3....how do I know if it has a tow/haul mode?
Also, how do I tell if it is an IDI or Power stroke?

Thanks

As for your question about if you have a Power Stroke, one sure indication is if it is auto trans or manual. If auto then it is not a Power Stroke but an IDI diesel and I assume yours is auto from your question about tow/haul.
Can`t be 100% but pretty sure the IDI diesels were not offered with tow?haul mode.
There is a great diesel section on this site for any engine problems. It`s on down the main forum page from here. Check it out.

A '94 won't have tow/haul. If you have an auto tranny, you probably have the ability to disable overdrive. Is there a small button on the end of the gear shift?

It is a 4x4, 5 speed manual tranny...will check out the engine forum once i figure out the right one.....lol
Asked about tow/haul because I have a 5th wheel trailer, and heard talk of this mode, and wondering if it is relevant to this vehicle..
Thanks

Well then, tow/haul mode was only for automatics.
Open the hood and look at the engine. Can you see the fuel injectors and the glowplugs, injector pipes running around the outside of the valve covers)? If you can then you have an IDI diesel. If the injectors and glowplugs are out of sight under the valve covers, then you have a Power Stroke.
Also if you look at the oil fill cap on the engine and the injector pump with a spagetti of hard lines coming from it is just behind it you have an IDI diesel.

94.5 officially started the powerstroke-but they sold them as 95 models Im almost positive.

From 92ish to 94 they turbo'd the IDI

I believe some of the '94 IDIs have a turbo.

Tow/haul (or OD off for that year) is applicable to auto trannys. The idea is to shift differently when heavy, but you control that in your truck as opposed to the computer.

Apparently it is a powerstroke...no spaghetti lines, and the fuel filter cowling says Direct Injection Turbo.
Is there any pecularities/idiosyncrasies to this engine that i should be aware of?

The Power Stroke is electronically controlled fuel injection so uses a computer to run the engine.
If you go down the main forum page to the diesel section and click on the Power Stroke page for your year of engine you will get a ton of info in the Stickies on that page plus you can ask there about servicing/problems.
