What does it take to outfit the 2008 and up tailgates to a 2006 f350?

You will need the new tailgate and a new style drivers side hinge I do believe. I know it is one ofthe hinges but I am pretty sure it is the drivers side. Someone will correct me If I am wrong. I have been wanting to do this mod on my truck too.

Yes. It is the part that bolts to the truck. I have heard people say this is a direct bolt up.

That is good news man. I will go tO the dealer and pick up that part. I get the tailgate tomorrow so I hope it all works out. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for all your help and I'll let you know how it goes. I highly recommend the mod. These super duty tailgates look way nicer and I was able to break even on the deal. Just gotta paint it

Did you get the tailgate step with it? My 2010 does not have it and I've considered adding it.

Mike

you cant add the step to a non-step gate..

its reinforced internaly for the step attachment points.

Hope it works out for ya. I would love to do this mod to my truck it just seems that everybody wants too much for the newer tailgate with or without the step. And mine is white so it is pretty easy to find a white takeoff tailgate. Maybe some day. I would do it in a heartbeat if I could break even.

You will need to replace the driver side box-mounted hinge roller and it will drop into place easily. The new roller will cost about $20 and I believe it requires a T-50 torx bit. The lift-assist feature sure is nice with the internal torsion spring

A GREAT thread for the update process.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if it could be added to an existing tailgate. It's not worth buying a whole new tailgate; I may start looking at wrecking yards for a truck totaled in the front that has one.

Got the hinge installed. Cost about 14 bucks. Tried the tailgate and it looks and works awesome. Thanks for all the help. Just gotta paint it now.
