F-450 Insurance Policy Question

F-450 Insurance Policy Question
Question for the people out there that now have a F-450. I have been planning for months now on getting my F-450 Lariat FX4 diesel, dually truck. Getting pretty excited too. Thing is that yesterday I heard that getting a F-450 insured is almost impossible. Seems that most of all the major insurance companies are pulling out and stopping any future policies. Or if they do they are making it insured by having it as a commercial use policy. Maybe because of the weight, I’m not sure. I just don’t want to come to that moment of having the truck of my dreams and not having it insured or paying for insurance up the Wazzoo! Is anybody here experiencing this? Thanks Tom

Purchased my new F-450 on Monday. The dealer called my insurance company and handled the transfer of the policy from my 2006 F-350 to the new truck. I had a binder and insurance cards before we drove off the lot.
I'm insured through the Good Sam Club with GMAC. I'm a Full-Time RV'er and my home base is in South Dakota. My rates for the new truck are approximately 30% more than for the old truck. GMAC lists the F-450 as a "Semi".

F450 insurance
I have a 2005 F450 cab and chassie with a pick up bed on the back. I ended up with AAA to insure it. They wanted pictures to make sure it was not being used for a commercial business. Farmers was twice the cost of AAA. Geico dose insure trucks larger the a F350. They said it weighed too much.

insurance for a Ford F-450
Here’s an update about me getting insurance for a 2011 Ford F-450. I called my insurance company, Hartford and got a no on insuring a F-450, Same went for Century 21 and Geico. I got a yes for State Farm but it would cost me over $1200 for six months. That to me seemed too high and the fact that I have a clean driving record. The Geico agent I talked to said they may be able to insure it under a commercial policy. I’m going to call Progressive and the Good Sam Club with GMAC to check out any possible rates. If anybody of you do have a F-450 and have it insured please let me know what company and if it is insured for regular use or commercial use. I also got my salesman at the dealership looking for insurance companies that would write up a policy. Thanks.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

I had my F450 insured with 21 Century for several years as a private own pickup. The premium was about $300 a year. Then I went commercial and my commercial insurance with Progressive is $1700 a year, what include cargo insurance.
The law seems to vary between the states. Lately in CA all trucks over 10,000 lb GVW, or even lighter flatbeds are consider commercial no matter 450 or 250.
Seems the laws existed for years, but it is now when cash starving Police is seeking each extra dollar they can squeeze from citizens.

I am a Farmers Agent in Washington State and we have been insuring them under a commercial use policy under our Farmers Insurance Exchange and it has actually been cheaper for our clients to do it that way. It is also a way to get a combined single limit policy instead of a split limit to provide yourself better protection to shield you in cases of larger or multiple unit accidents. If you are a full-time Rv'er you can also procure coverage under the Foremost company by tying the vehicle in with an RV Policy as a combination policy therefore giving you the best bang for your buck. I wish you luck in your search for the best option for you and congrats on the new rig.....

I switched to State Farm for everything years ago, except for my Contractor Liability. Every now and then I check around (Geico, Progressive, Allstate which is who I was with originally) but they are still the best in my book. Paid for umpteen windshields and a vehicle that caught fire and my rates have dropped, since I added my wife to the policy.
When I bought my F-250 in 2004 the agent told me that it was the safest truck for them to insure, I know that was 7 years ago but I can't imagine much has changed.
