1961 ford unibody
hey guys, im new here, ive been working on a 61 ford f100 unibody for a couple months, my name is josh, im from southern california and i own and operate an airbag parts supply house and fab shop. feel free to contact me if i can do anything for you, im new to the ford world and this will be my first one, im super pleased with the body lines of my truck and i cant get enough time in on it. here are a few pics, it has a full frame with a chevy front clip, 2 link suspension with a watts link. it is built to lay a 22inch wheel, im going to mate the cab to the frame and then start the chop on the roof.

WOW welcome FTE were in SoCal are you. I also have a 61 uni. I'll be taking the body off in the year or so to four link the rear and reclip the front. I can't bag the volare. So I'll be looking at a dakota or aerostar. Being an air bag guy what would you recomend. Also can I go triangulated 4link on a full size truck.

sure, triangulated 4 would be fine, im a big fan of 2 links with watts behind it, only because it is pretty much flawless, if you arent into the volare front then go with a camaro or 63 and up chevy front clip, the track width is the same and it has all of the ncie features, a arm, rack and pinion, easy to drop a motor in, etc. good luck with the build.

yea i knew it was gonna be hard coming over to this site, cuz i am a chevy man at heart, however, i am building a ford for obvious reasons, body lines, rarity, entire stance of the truck in general, so at least i am giving some applause..
**HOWEVER! i am open to finding a cobra motor for it. this would be an option**

no1, If you had watched auto auctions like Barrett Jackson, you would have noticed Fords with non Ford engines bring much less money than the ones with Ford engines.
Any idiot can put a chevy engine in a hot rod, but today there is no reason to. If I walk up to your rod at a show and see the dist in the rear, I turn walk away, shake my head, while calling you a name.
A nice bowtie beside of it, I will look it over pretty good, because I can enjoy great workman ship.
Do the right thing, build an all Ford rod.

im not in it for the money, in fact i dont plan on selling it
and about idiots putting chevy motors in hot rods, what makes putting a ford motor in any harder?
if you turn and walk away because you see a chevy motor in a ford, your missing out, especially if its a truck you love to look at, dont miss out on smethign great because ists not the exact way you like it, you may as well walk away crying and sucking your thumb, because that is pure ignorance, im sure not everyione in the world is building their custom to your liking.
if you can enjoy great workmanship then you should enkoy all walks of custom cars, i dont like the term rod really, in fact it is more of a custom what i am building, and for the record, IMO ford has never built a good lokin motor like the ls6, IMO!
spike lee said to do the right thing when it came to morals and integrity in your neighborhood, not when building a one off ford uni.

Boss 429?
IMO, if the vehicle is a Ford, you put a Ford engine in it.
If it's a Chevy, you put a Chevy in it, etc.
IMO, welding a Shivvy motor in your Ford vehicle is kinda like sewin' a pecker on your best girl; it just don't belong there.

Yep......
But its a custom... so HEMI SOHC BOSS Caddy Nailhead or anything in between is OK!
Were are installing a LS6 in to a 36 Cord 810 sedan along with a custom MII ..now theres some down right sacarelage for ya! So much for that Lycoming mill and front wheel drive......
Dont get me wrong a ford in a ford is finally catching on, but with what he is doing frame wise a ford will not fit the bill so to say with the stupid front mounted oil pumps and larger oil pans. even the rear sump pans will be too tall at the crossmember.
I bust my bosses stones all the time over his 427 he has installed in his 63 Uni, He is a FE fan but the mill just would not fit so in went in the 550 horse RAT!
