My power steering pump seized a few days ago and I'm about to swap it out.
It has 1 inlet and 1 outlet and the pulley looks pressed on.
Some parts stores are saying the pulley comes with the new 1 and some say it doesn't and I need this tool.
So I'm having a pump pulley kit dropped off shortly.
Right above the steering pump/reservoir is I'm assuming the Air-Conditioning pump???
Maybe someone can correct me on that.
Does that need to be removed as there seems to be a big collar attached to the Steering pump that does need to come off but would entail removing the Air-Comp. as well.
Any feed back would be appreciated.

Ok I unbolted the Air-Comp. pump?? and raised and tied it back with a bungie cord.
The bracket which I unbolted it from also houses the hole for the power steering pump pulley shaft and is bolted to it.
Looks like I unbolt it then slide it through the back??

Also the shaft and pulley.. the pulley looks to be THREADED??
Is the end of the shaft THREADED??
Does it just unscrew??
Can't pull the pump out the back until the Pulley is actually off.
Please don't tell me the Rad has to come out...

 

IIRC, You need to remove the pulley on the truck, then unbolt the pump. Then you bolt on the new one and install the pulley. The pulley is pressed on and you need the tool to remove it. The new pump usually comes with a 3/8 bolt, nut, and washer that is used to press the pulley back on. You can get the tool from autozone for a deposit.

 

Ok I have the TOOL and have it attached but the RAD shroud is in the way so I'm going to unbolt it and try and remove the pulley .
I'll post back shortly..

 

The rad. shroud does get in the way, when I did mine I managed to fit the tool in anyways. Bashby is correct, you must first remove the puller to get the pump out. You don't have to remove the a/c compressor, there is enough room. Make sure you have the puller that has a collar that locks around the center 'lip'.

Unbolting the shroud does not give me enought play so I need to now remove the Fan Blade ! No rad removal,looks like plenty of room once the shroud is gone.
Yes I have the correct tool.. I see its beveled on 1 side when the tool pieces are joined and the other side is flat.
Which side goes against the shaft and which is facing out?

Do I need the SPECIAL TOOL to remove the fan blade??

 

You don't need to unbolt the fan, just unbolt the shroud and rotate the shroud. Its works both ways I believe but one way is better than the other, I don't remember what faces out, sorry.

 

And whatever you do, dont press the pulley on backwards... don't ask how I know.

 

Ok guys heading back out in a minute.
I marked the outside of the pulley so noway of going on backwards.
I'll see what I can do with rotating the shroud or installing the tool with the screw already in and moving the shroud as I screw it out...

 

Ok I have the new pump in.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use this tool to re-install it though.
I used the big round sleeve and split collar & the nut washer combo to remove using the big bolt.
Now in the kit is the 1 1/4 collar and different asst. of double threaded bolts with nuts in the centre.
Anyone have any idea as how to use them???

There should be a bolt in it with some sort of thrust washer. line the pulley up to the pump put the bearing thrust washer thingy on the bolt. The pump shaft is threaded on the inside so as the bolt screws into it it pushes the pulley on

 

Ok everything is back together except my belt.
I cannot remember the route.
I've search for a diagram but nothin like mine
I have A/C
Anyone have a pic or link to a diagram showing the route of the Serpentine Belt?

Ok when it rains it pours!!
The serpentine belt broke today on the way home.
It got itself wrapped around the fan.
It also bent the 2 steel lines on the passenger side of the engine.
Trannie cooler lines I think.
They need to be replaced.
But I need to figure out what they are.
I'll get under it in the morning and see what else it has done.

 

The belt most likely derailed because the pulley you pressed on wasn't straight or was pressed on not enough/too much. Check for alignment and make sure it's on correctly. Lmc should have your tranny cooler lines if a junkyard doesn't.
