Fuel water seperator

Fuel water seperator
Here it is got it done today. Started by taking off the pump to filter line and unplugging the heater. next i replaced the elbow on the head with a 1/4npt to 3/8 inverted flare fitting from napa. Took a scrap piece of angle and cut a notch for the fitting to go through and drilled two hole for the existing filter head bolts to go though, then i out the bracket on and sey to new filter up to it and marked my holes and drilled them once i got the new head bolted to the bracket and then to the old head it was time for the lines. I got a 30" 3/8 brake line and used a brake line bender and just basically just started at the pump and estimated my angles and bent it. It was alot of test fitting but i didn't need to use another line. The scond short line was the hardest. i had to bend a 90 in a piece and i just barely had enough room to flare it once i got the nuts on. then to get the line on i ended up taking the filter bracket loose from the old head and putting the line on and did a little more flexing of the line until the holes lined up. I tightened the bolts for the last time and admired the fact it turned out like i wanted it to.

Hey that setup looks great. You motivated me to do one on my truck since my factory one is so corroded its been bypassed. I was able to find the mount at my napa but the only filter thy had to fit it was p/n 33005 they didn't have 33418. I think it will work, the flow rate is the same. It is a 3 micron filter so I think it may catch more junk anyways. I was Thinking I would just use rubber fuel hose instead of the brake lines, what are your thoughts on that. It also seems that most separators are before the lift pump. Does that make a difference? Also no that your is in, have you noticed any vibration issues with it because my fuel filter seems to vibrate a bit as it is.

I haven't even started it yet i have the leaking block heater out. Nothing wrong with doing rubber lines i just wanted that clean fancy look and my buddy had a bender so i thought why not give it a shot. I think the filter you have is just a shorter version. The local Auto Value had 50% off wix filters so i popped for the big one. As far as being between the lift pump and other filter, i don't think it makes a difference, the water seperator on my 290cummins is on the pressure side right before the secondary filter. As for the vibration my old filter never had an issue. you may want to pull the alt and vac pump and make sure your mount doesn't have a crack in it.

I did have to replace that short metal line between the 2 filters, the bent was too sharp and I didn't get a perfect seal, I have a rubber line in there now but it has clamps on it to keep it from kinking.
I think I'm going to try a metal line again with compression fittings, I'll let you know how that turns out.

I'd have to rig something up like that on my 6.9, as my water separator has been by-passed for 10 years. Been running without a water separator for that long....
I'm gonna have to end up finding a 7.3 head for it, as theres no room at all to rig something up like that in a VAN.

PS. I think I've got a baldwin on Ol' Gray that has a drain on the bottom. I'll check tomorrow and let you know.

It's a single tank.
Never taught of installing one on the frame near the tank.. hmm.
The factory one is mounted to the frame, right under the drivers seat.
I always said it shouldn't matter much as it only sees summer use, and I regularly change the fuel filter.
But I was brought up a good point by F250XLT I believe a while ago that water can still form in the fuel system even if not used year round. Might not be as much, but still is there. I do plan on keeping this camper for another long spell so I may as well bullet proof it
