Question 2005 STX Hard to start when cold.

I have a 2005 STX with 107,000 miles on it. When it is cold you have to turn the key on for 5 seconds twice then start it. When it is warm it will start like it always did. When the temperature outside is 60 or above you have to do the key thing about 5 times. I think it is my fuel pump but I would like some more input. What do ya'll think? Puzzled in Missouri!

I thought fuel pump too as I was reading. Sounds like you gotta keep priming the pump to get the pressure up enough for it to start. How old is your battery though? Also have you changed the fuel filter yet or is the original one still on there? If not I would throw on a new one and try that before tackling the fuel pump.

Agree with Eric. Start with fuel filter if it hasn't been done in a while and maybe get the battery tested. Some more information on your past care will help the people around here with more advice on where to go if these don't do the trick.

Battery is about 2 years old and never had a problem. Fuel filter was changed about 2000 miles ago and it made no difference to the way it starts. Took it to a garage and they put it on the machine that cleans the injectors and valves and heads. it also made no difference.

There is a fuel module on the rear frame X member behind the spare tire check it to see if it is corroded as they trap dirt and water at the frame if any holes in it need new one aprox $ 100.00 and they have a spacer to keep it off the frame.
