Paint Issue

The paint in the bed of my 07 is peeling off. Anyone else having this problem? I'm worried that its going to spread to the outside of the bed. The bed does get used and scratches are clearly on it but the paint is coming of in chunks. It appears the surface was not prepped correctly and the paint didnt stick.

My truck is out of warranty and the dealer agreed it shouldnt be doing this but they really cant do anything about it.

What do you guys think I should do?

That does appear to be a pain adhesion issue and not a case of it being scratched off from the outside. maybe this is a good time to get your bed Rhino lined? Hopefully the pain on the exterior panels won't see this problem.

Yeah I regret not having a bed liner sprayed in before I drove it off the lot. If it stays in the bed its not a huge issue but it shouldnt have done this in the first place.

It just makes me wonder how that paint is going to hold up long term.

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for a spray in liner.....they rough up the surface anyways to spray it.

That's definitely an adhesion issue. Sorry, that sucks.
I too think it would be a good time to throw down the $400 or so it'll cost to get a nice sprayed in liner. That's certainly less expensive than an entire paint job.

I agree. I've had good results with Raptor liner from NAPA if you feel like doing it yourself with an air compressor.

I agree with all that's been said. Just make sure that the prep is done properly before spraying in any liner. Cleanliness is king for good adhesion of paint or bed liner.

Over the yrs, I've had no liners, plastic drop in liners, diy Hercurliner and quality spray in liner. My favorite so far has been no liner! It's a truck bed. Let it get scratched to heck. So what. The spray liners do add some dent and slide resistance. Most of the time I've wanted to slide things into the bed but couldn't because of the liner. After a cpl yrs the spray in liners look dull and faded anyway and I have cut and scratched them with pieces of steel so they look just as crappy. Why waste the $400.

What purpose is a bed liner going to serve if it spreads to the outside of the bed?

Do you think they would prep the inside of the bed differently than the outside?

If your warranty is still good take it to the stealership and they will replace them at no charge. The one on my front grill did this while I still had a warranty and they replaced it with no argument.

That's as good of an excuse that I can think of to purchase one the cool aftermarket grilles on the market now.
