TBI on a 400

I am interested in installing tbi on my project 400. I have read bad things about the holley 2d, also i was hoping for a more advanced computer, one that could control ignition and be programmed(microprocessor). I have a few questions:

A)Who has experience with such endevors?

B) Why is there a reccomended horsepower range with the systems? Isnt it possible to attain greater than 275 hp and be using the holley 2d?

C) Is the 4d any good? or are there other units better reccomended?

D) Suggested Intake manifolds? Everyone seems to like the edelbrock, anyone try the weiand? anybody use block spacers?

Thanks.

Maybe ask in different forums too? Ratsmoker might know something in the performance and general engine bulding one Let me know how it works out please. There is a website out there too that I can't remember.

Generally speaking you wont get more peak horsepower with street fuel injection. You may get more area under the horsepower curve and better throttle response if it works right. I had nothing but trouble trying to run F.I. I tried a Barry Greant VFI unit and pretty much ruined an engine with it. Turned out to be electronic interference from H.E.I. type ignition, after they told me that would be no problem.
Most of these units will require extensive tuning with a lap top even if they do work correctly.

I have been thinking about EFI, and in researching the subject found this site: http://www.detomaso.nu/~thomast/efi/

Granted, this was done on a 351C, but it wouldn't be that difficult to use the 351C to 351M/400 spacers and make it work from there. It is definatley worth looking into!

Good Luck,
Nathan

probe industries will make a custom efi intake. they use a 351C torker 2 intake and add fuel rails. the cost is around $750.
