So at idle you're saying the trans temp goes from -20 degrees to +50 degrees in 30-60 seconds?
Not the actual trans temp, the gauge. The in-dash gauges are basically idiot lights with needles and register more of a cold/normal/hot reading than any real temperature or pressure. basically useless for any real information.

I understand this. My original question was why does the tranny warm up so much faster than the engine?
I checked my trans temp readings this morning, starting with 27 deg. 1 mile down the road (more then 1 min.) it rose to 38 deg. At 7 miles down the road the temp was 105 which centered the dash gauge. It took 12 miles of driving to reach 155 degrees.

It doesn't warm up faster than the engine, it warms up slower. The gauge is calibrated to go to the middle at a much lower temperature than the engine temp gauge.
