TECH question 1996 F250 5.8 (fuel delivery)

I had the engine rebuilt and set everything in a buttoned up properly. There is no fuel getting to the fuel rail. It sounds like the fuel pump is cutting on for just a second and cuts back off. Surely this can't be as simple as a stopped up fuel filter???? When I put gas in the throttle body, it'll try to start.

BTW, it was running when I took the motor out and set up for several months. Suggestions?

Also, if someone had a pic of the drivers side of the top of the engine where the coil pack is they could post, I'd appreciate it. There is about a 1" black tube on that side facing the front of the truck just behind the oil fill that I can't find what connects to it. Like I said, It's been several months and my memory isn't the best in the world.

Thanks for the help!

It is normal for the fuel pump to run for one second a quit, that is what it is suppose to do.

Is your truck under or over 8500 GVW?

ouch hope you are well i believe that hose goes to your air filter box as for the fuel have turn it on and push the fuel rail valve (looks like a valvestem) and dont be in the way it should hit the hood i cant remember the pressure but like 40 to 60 psi (im sure i will get corrected on that ) and you might even try to cycle the key on a few times and then off but dont crank the motor over do this a few times then try to start

Yes the fuel pressure is between 40-45 for his 5.8 and around 60 psi for an 4.9L.
But he has to short pin #2 to pin #6 of the self-test connector if his truck is over 8500 GVW.

If your truck is under 8500 GVW it would be a OBD-II truck.
If your truck is over 8500 GVW it would be a OBD-I truck.

An OBD-II has a Mass Air Flow Sensor on the air box/hoses
An OBD-I doesn't have a Mass Air Fow Sensor....

Gotcha. I don't have any electronic sensors on my hoses or air box that I can see. I'm going to change out the filter anyway. It should just squirt gas freely with the filter out of the way, right?

Also, with my cat removed, buy sensor still in place, will that give the computer any false codes?

Yes.. assuming there is enough gas in the tank to prime the pump... have you verified that?

I have the pump out and it's not running. I'm also not getting any voltage if I'm reading the pump right on the red and black wire (yellow is gauge, right?). The voltage isn't stepped down from 12v is it?

If we are talking about the front tank then:
Yes the Dark Blue wire with a yellow stripe is for the gauge and the red wire is power to the pump and Orange is the ground for the pump. The Black wire is the ground for the gauge.
