"Service engine soon"

"Service engine soon"
I had a dual exhaust installed and I didn't like the sound of it, so I had my cat replaced with a single cat (hollow). My manifold exhaust was leaking so I replaced it with SS Gibson headers. Shortly after the headers were installed I have been getting "service engine soon" light. These mods are making the light go off. If I bought a programer or had dyno work done on my truck would this problem go away Do I have to worry about getting it inspected in November, or because its a Super Duty truck they don't check for emissions when you get it inspected I live in MA.

were the egr lines hooked back up? i got that feeling that something with the egr is causing the code but lets be safe here and ask if theres any body you know with a code reader to be sure?

Hey SKODA,
Thanks for stopping by. I think you might be right. When I added new headers they tried to save the EGR. The EGR was hooked as follows: They were afraid to unscew it so they cut the tubing and added a new tube in between. Then welded the piece and added some putty and some metal foil. I am not discribing it well, but I think you understand.

If you like you can try and clear the code your shelf, disconnect the battery and turn the lights on in the truck for 1 min, now they claim you'll need to wait a half hour i'd just reconnect after a min or two and start her up and see if the code comes back.

A few days ago the light was on and stopped by a place and they used a reader. He reset it and told me the light would not go off for the next 50 miles. After 75 miles or so I was going up an incline not very steep and I steped on the gas aggressively and the light came back on. He had said it was an emissions problem. He also said it has to do with the cat. When I had the dual exhaust installed I had the stock cat pulled out and put a single cat that you can see through. When I spoke with Mike from 5 Stars if I bought the tuner he would program it so he would deactivate it so the light would not come on. Do you think its the EGR or the cat?

hey Carl, as far as MA laws go its not emissions you should be worried about its, noise level. The law is that any system that produces more noise than stock can cause you to fail inspection. Obviously some places are more/ less lenient than others. When i had the muffler shop install mine they made me sign something stating that I knew my vehicle may fail inspection and to not hold them responsible. That being said I passed inspection without a question last year so hopefully this year will be the same.
