Made the switch from 5W40 to 10W30

Decided to give it a try and I also replaced my oil by-pass valve.....

On the by pass valve I didn't notice a change in anything-the old one didn't seem to have any issues with it and it was very clean-just a warning with this replacement theres a decent sized spring under the cover you need to remove to change it.....if not careful you can drop something VERY easily and youll pull the oil cooler trying to fish it out.....from what i can tell

On the 10w30 I did notice a difference, I was using rev-x to help with a stiction issue I had and on a cold morning it was coming back so I figure the REV-X broke down and stopped helping the issue.....

This morning the truck started right up, drove perfect, even WITHOUT rev-x so I think it definitely helped my situation.....I am really trying to prolong either replacing my injectors or pulling the spool valves and cleaning them

This is just my opinion....might be different for others

Thanks for the input on the oil. I have contemplating switching weights. Now even more since Delo is making changes.

Please keep us updated on the oil.

I am experiencing the same problem with my injectors and have been using Archoil 9100. I too am trying to prolong the injectors.

Thanks - Preston

Did you use regular 10w-30 for gas engine or an oil rated for diesel?

Just wanted to give you guys an update.....

My truck LOVES this oil....before I would have to wait until 130-150 EOT for the truck to really purr like a kitten......

Now I just get in it and go.....Today was about 5* out with a wind chill truck started right up(which is always did) but I was running late and didn't have time to really let it warm up I had a trailer hooked up to it to, got right on the highway and truck ran perfect even below 100* EOT Really happy with this oil and I believe I will be sticking with it from here on out

Did you go with a dino?
blend?
What brand?

Inquiring minds want to know

I did run the Shell 10W30 blend the first time I changed the oil after the HPOP.
That was early fall so not really much of a cold weather check.

Shell Rotella T5 synthetic blend diesel engine oil 10W-30 1 gal. 550045130 - Read Reviews on Shell #550045130

This is exactly what I used....Of course I used an OEM oil filter as well!

Interesting!

What temp ranges do you expect to run this in? Year around?

We range from -5 lows to 100 degrees in the summer. I am always wondering what is a good option, as I change the oil twice a year. I'm always trying to find a balance with what works best- especially in the cold.

Thank you.

Unless it's brand related, I don't see where you'd see much if any difference between 10W30 and 5W40 on cold start ups.

Been running this stuff since I bought mine a few yrs back. I also add the Archoil. It had about 155k on it when I got it, and I just turned over 200k. Admittedly I don't tow very much and that was supposed to be the downside of running this wieght oil. I won't worry about it until I start hooking 10k lbs to it consistently.

Oil Cooler Bypass Valve

Some say it can stick open and cause oil to by pass the oil cooler causing higher oil temps than normal

I changed mine out and didn't notice a change at all in temps.....although the one i took out was in perfect shape

One person says that and I think the risk of dropping parts and pieces of it in the oil cooler is high verses the gain. If it were a high failure rated item, we'd of heard about it by now......

absolutely! Very Very easy to drop something down into the oil cooler.....The risk isn't worth the reward IMO.
