Safety warning -- MAPP gas cylinders

Saw this on the FordBarn, it apparently isn't "new" but I'd never heard of it. Scary!!

I do use this product.I had a tank start a fire at the area mentioned as I was using it..Tossed it to the ground and put out the fire...Thought It was operator error...still could have been,but good to know about other problems

Wow! I only use their propane torch. Any issue with it????

Guess I'm not taking the mapp gas under the house when I add that copper line....back to propane.

i have three of these setups. knocked the one over and it ruptured. lucky the tank was empty. have always unscrewed the head since. some times the valve on the tank dont shut off. so dont smoke when removing head. after seeing this i feel lucky

None reported, but the cylinders are virtually the same.

Most pro plumbers wouldn't touch those things. They use a prestolite type acetylene gas torch.

On a sidenote, there's a thread on the HAMB about the shortage of acetylene. Food for thought. Just when my tank is running out, too.

MAPP gas is no longer produced.
These type of cylinders are still in use with other gases.
ANY cylinder under pressure is dangerous especially those with flammable/combustible materials.
Reusable pressure vessels require periodic tests for integrity.
BE SAFE
