Been reading here a while, great information, THANKS
My first post of what will most likely be many. I have recently bought a 1993 Winnebago 27ft on a ford chassis with the non turbo 7.3 diesel and of course i have alot to learn it appears to have been sitting for a few years and has only about 54.000 miles on it.
Today i drove it about 35 miles after doing a complete brake job on it and 6 new tires.Things seem pretty good with it with a few exceptions, when ever i step on the brake the brake warning light on the dash comes on and when i take my foot off the brake the warning light goes off after a second or two which i have never seen before. Any help as to what might be causing this would be greatly appreciated! TIA Don

Yep, Mine does that too. first you have to check all the vacuum lines. Some may have come loose, the ones going to the AC/Heat system. Look for vacuum leaks. IF everything looks good, then it could be the vacuum pump wearing out. Mine improved the more I ran the van that had been sitting for a long time.

^^^ What he said.

Usually on these diesels when the brake lamp lights on when you step on the brake, it's warning you of low vacuum.

If you pump the brakes once or twice, does it come hard to press? If it does, yep, low vacuum.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, will probably be a couple of days before i can get back at it.i suspect the pump and was looking up prices ect and came across info that says the direction of rotation is important and some pumps run inside the belt and some like mine run on the back of the belt, have any of you folks run into a problem with this? any suggestions on the best place to buy one? Thanks Don

That... doesn't make sense. Direction of rotation shouldn't matter - It's just a basic vacuum pump. Shaft spins, pushing a diaphragm up and down. Checkvalves allow air to go one way through the pump as it moves.

I agree ,common sense it should work either way however Cardone rebuilders says they are different and on Rock auto there are 2 different part numbers with the change being at 3/92 and i suspect that it may have to do with the change from v belts to serpentine belts.try this link it should get you to the Cardone info.http://my.cardone.com/techdocs/PT64-0001V.pdf Don
