DISTRIBUTOR GEAR, HARD? 1984/302
When replacing the distributor gear in a 1984 f150 with a 302, should I use a hardened steel gear? or cast Iron or bronze gear? I am not sure for this year, and don't want to eat the cam gear up? anyone know for sure? the aftermarket distributor I want to use has a steel gear on it now (Procomp), Thanks, vic

Sounds like the gear might be a PM part (powdered metal) part. We use PM parts for pinions in hydraulic actuators. Tooling is reasonable and if designed correctly very little additional machining is required. The suppliers of this technology can do quite a bit with the metallurgy to get good wear pair characteristics as well.
