96 f250 7.3

well im totally new to this site so Hi to all..

Ive bought myself a 1996 ford f250 7.3 5sp 4x4. I dont know much about the truck yet. I got it cheap because the owner couldnt get it to start had it to a few shops and couldnt figure out why it wouldnt start so he sold it .. So i first of all did an oil change put 2 new batts in and also a new starter and it starts now.. it just seems to take alot of cranking like 15 second before it fires up once it does fire it kinda smokes blue but runs okay. the blue smoke quits after about 30 miutes of idling. but i took it for a spin and it seems to run fine has a tone of power haha. so anyways i stuck my code reader on it the engine light wasent on i just wanted to see if there was any stored codes to do with the long crank and there was nothing . and the code reader didnt pick up any of the pids except engine rpm and the cts which read -40F while it was running but i guess i need a special reader to work on the powerstroke right? so anyway where would i start to look for the long crank? it recently had glow plugs bout 2 years ago .

also while it was running i unplugged the map sensor and it didnt effect anything which seemed weird.. thnks for any help ...

I would check the glowplug relay, they are known to fail. I would also check all eight glowplugs and replace any that are bad.
A lot of the diesel guys use the Autoenginuity scanner for the Power Stroke.
If you go down the main forum page to the Diesel Section and post your question on the Power Stroke page you will get specialist advice.
Good luck.
