dang. i wish that would have happend to me. lol. when i scrapped my truck, i was gonna keep the tires and rims, but we couldnt get the lug nuts loose. we bent a tire iron trying to get them broke loose. so i just left them on. lol.
When you torque them always lightly torque them first and watch to make sure the taper of the lugs centers the wheel properly. If you just crank them on they can "lock in position" with out the lugs being seated in the taper of the wheel, then when the wheel centers itself you have loose lugs.
as a career truck driver the big truck wheels also have to be retorqued within 100 mi. for some reason aluminum rims seem to have to settle in on the truck and then need retightening of the lugs.
I had this same problem only it was the front driver tire, heard this awfull thumping in the front end thought is was a ball joint. after the last loud thud and the front end got loose I got out and noticed my 36 inch tire resting on my lock out hub! Not cool. I have had the alum. rims on for 4 years now and NEVER had that prob. all the other lugs where tight as can be.
