thanks Phil - I am VERY excited - owner is changing out the grill and doing an oil change - and removing the "fire response" stuff (dang) - but it is a really nice truck - being a senior citizen, I like the senior citizen vehicles!

Not sure on the differences between a LD F-250 and a 7700 F-150.

Edit: I found this from another thread, I am glad I found this since my father had a F-250 LD. I was always curious if and what the difference was.

It carried through the 1999 model year and was available in a variety of drive and cab configurations. They were available with the 4.6 or 5.4 and automatic transmission. The auto could be either the 4r70w or 4r100. Not all f250 LD were 7700lb gvw, but that was the max available. All F250LD or 7700's had the 10.25 semi floating axle. All had (goofy) 7 lug wheels. Later in 04, Ford continued the use of the 7 lug wheels with a heavy payload F150. They weren't that common.

Starting in 2000, the F250LD was dropped mostly due to confusion in the product line. The same chassis became the F150 7700, which was available ONLY with the 5.4L. It was supposed to be available only with the 4r100 but there have been reports of some coming with the 4r70w. A by product (or the main reason depending on your viewpoint) of dropping the F250LD, is the F150 7700 now has the highest payload and gvw of any f150, trumping 1/2 ton trucks of the time. I know the one I owned had the highest payload of any truck I've owned at 2800lbs!

4x4 7700's came standard with plow prep.

Ford has had F-250 light and heavy duty models at different points in time. The giveaway is the full or semi floating axle. They continued that through the (then) new f150 body style. As of 2000 with the success of the Superduty line they have not offered a F250LD.

Your welcome! I honestly wanted to know myself too because I have heard of both trucks and my father had a '99 F250 Light Duty. It was a great truck, we used it for just about anything.

Well that truck never let us down even when we did things that were at or over its limitations. The engine never got hot when under a heavy load, the trans would a bit but it never failed. One time we were following someone who led us on a road with a sign that said "no trailers". I forgot how steep the grade was but it was really steep with hairpin turns, we ended up descending more than 4,000ft down that road. We warped the drive shaft but we still managed to drive it home which was still more than 100miles away with the trailer and later drove it to the dealer afterwords to get it fixed. It was a very tough and reliable truck.

the seller vanished - I had the truck evaluated, we were emailing about delivery - then he stopped answering emails, VM, texts. Then finally admits he sold it to a "local". I am so unhappy and mad. I am local by the way - I bought him breakfast - it was all good, I was getting insurance on it. Poof.

I told him that was a very dishonorable thing he did!

So much for buying from owners. Jeesh.

Aw man that's awful, especially when you have to hunt him down like that just to find out what happened. I was waiting to hear from you when you got the truck, I'm sorry to hear that. From what I have heard that would have been a great truck.

Are you going to look for another truck? Don't let this stop you from getting what you want. I'm sure you can find something.

Badger Boy - I have my neighbor - with his truck which is also a F250 LD - it is a mess but he is the original owner and you know what? Maybe meant to be - I will pick it up next week to get it checked out - so what if it is a dented masterpiece - not as fussed up as the other one - which was a Lariat and pretty pretty pretty - but as said, sometimes things happen for a reason!

Yeah that's true, you could be better off with this truck. Even if it is dented, the truck could still very well be in good mechanical order and that's all that really matters.

Those F-250 LD's were great trucks and they were ahead of their time in terms of capability. My father's was a 4x2 and the payload rating was around 2800lbs, not bad for a half-ton truck! They were just built to work, you got to love a truck like that.
