i picked up a DANA 60 rear axle out of a 79 f250 4x4 while i clean it up and paint it i want to convert to disc brakes my question is what kits are out there for this swap? i checked out this kit but not sure how good it is D60 Rear Disc Brake Kit anyone have this kit or know if it's any good are there better kits out there? the axle will be going in my 71 f250 4x4 crew cab
so will i be able to get the caliper bracket at autozone? or is that the only part i need to find online? if at autozone what application should i say its for to fit my 79 dana 60 axle? i want calipers without the parking brake as i will be using a e brake on the back of my trans
I still prefer my homemade weld on style ones! This way I could clock it to any position to be able to bleed all the air out for my application.

73 Ford guy I seen the pics you posted in the one lift thread great truck. the brackets that are in the link above bolt at the backing plate am I correct? Couldn't I spin the brackets to where I want them and weld them on instead of bolting them in place?

The bolt hole pattern clocks the bracket at a 45 degree angle atop the axle, but you can also weld them if you prefer a different position or for added strength.

In your case if you had bolt on brackets I would slot the holes to where you need the caliper sitting then bolt and weld it. Just remember if you ever need to tilt your diff up towards your t case down the road for a cv driveshaft you will need to re locate the caliper so it will properly bleed and get the air out. I did both at once cv shaft, rotating up, then got an idea where the caliper needs to sit , so weld on style is nice..
If you chew up ujoints due to extreme angle a cv shaft is a must!
That is a great price for those brackets. I paid about $70 from Great Lakes on Ebay. Buy your soft lines from Rock Auto and save about 50%! on close outs.
You might also want to think about installing an adjustable proportioning valve.

D60 brackets
chevy 3/4 Disc brake rotors, calipers and pads.
I used brake hoses for a early 80s car, because they were only $10 a side and the truck ones were double.

since we are talking about caliper angles what's the best angle to mount them at? i'm assuming at a 45* angle since the brackets are made to put them at it. i may or may not need to raise my rear pinion angle i will be running a 8'' super duty leaf spring suspension setup haven't put the lift on yet so can't check for angles yet so to start my parts list i will need DANA 60 caliper brackets, 3/4 ton chevy front rotors, matching calipers, pads and brake hoses? this is everything needed? also what year and model should i say the parts are for when at the parts store ordering?
you can tell them 1984 chevy K20, that would be a 10 bolt front (better calipers than d44) with 8 lug outers. I put mine the way I did because the spring interfered with any other indexing. Plus that would be the stock location of the front chevy.
