Looking to buy my first diesel

The truck I am looking at is a 1990 Ford F350 XLT SRW, 7.3 turbo diesel. It has 232,000 miles on it and they are asking 3900 for it. Is this a good price? It looks to be in decent condition for a 20+ year old truck. what are some things to look for? I am new to diesels so anything would help. Thanks

Make sure the engine is dead cold when checking it out,(people will try to warm them up before you show up) should start on first try with glow plugs. Look for blow by and see how heavy the oil is(15w40 should move easy down the stick) You should be able to shift down the trans from over drive at 55 and back up again with no slips or motor noises. on a ford also check that front end that is the end of its life at 200k and needs rebuilt. cab mounts sinking if the front cab mounts have buckled you will have alot of problems. If you are looking for a diesel company truck with 200k miles hold up better than personal ones(and I have bought and sold alot)but dont have the warm fluffy extras you might want. I still would avoid a one ton or smaller after 200k if you are not a diesel person, the cost of keeping it going will hurt you
