I don't mind doing a little advertising for Clay, he has a great product in that kit. It is simple and functional, but clean and durable. Form AND function; what else could you ask for. Except maybe free shipping on replacement filter...oh, wait....never mind! Different thread.

Seriously though, I though about the DIY 6637 approach but I got this kit for about the same price as I could have bought the parts to make my own (not to mention the pre-filter that I could not have made myself). It's a great kit and I have this site to thank for turning me on to it.

In regard to the turbo, I checked it for any play at all and didn't see any at all in any direction so it appears to be good and tight at this point but I don't want to wait very long before I address that issue. I'm sure that is a contributing factor to the poor mileage I am getting too. I've put quite a bit of work and a few bucks into this truck since I got it, but I have no regrets about getting it. ZERO regrets. I love this thing and I am viewing it as more of a working build than anything else. I have a great, albeit not that pretty, base to work with and I have the chance now to build it into exactly the truck I want it to be. I'd rather spend my money and time on this truck than to pay the bucks for something newer and less capable. I've been there and I chose the workhorse over the show horse.

Sorry for the novel, just in the mood to type this evening I guess.

No problem Nate.....I built my own air intake about 3 weeks before Clay released his kit. I helped a buddy install his kit he got from Clay and it was indeed easy. I spent about 100.00 for my kit and it took me about 2 days to construct and install. The only cool thing is, I get to say I made mine...but from now on, I will recommend the kit to everyone else.

Yeah, I like to be able to say that too, but in this case it just seems to make sense to buy this kit. I have plans for other projects for this truck that will allow me to be able to say that!

Wow. I don't think I've seen anything like that before.

So what are your plans now? Sell that "custom intake for the legendary 7.3 Powerstroke" on ebay or something?

Yeah too bad I missed that deal. I think I had around $100 in the kit all told (shipping, etc.) but the cheapest I could find the filter here locally was like $55, so I could barely make the kit for $100.

As far as the old kit goes, I think I am going to take it apart, do some reverse engineering on it and start making them to sell on eBay. If I can figure out what the parts came off of, I figure I can source the parts at local junk yards, build them for like $5 each, and sell them on eBay for like $50 each. I should be a millionaire within a year or two this way. (Just kidding of course) I'm not even sure I want that hanging on the wall of my shop! It will more than likely go in a box in the loft above my shop with the rest of the "spare parts" from my truck. I might just keep it around as a reminder of things SHOULD NOT be done.

The 29 dollar deal was just for the filter only. Not the kit.

Its 91 for the RR Kit.

The powder coated elbow is mandrel bent and powder coated. The SD one is just a little tube he has powder coated he makes himself to save costs.
So, us OBS guys gotta pay a few more pennies. But its worth it to have a nice quality piece of hardware in there instead of some flimsy or rusty pipe.
